3 probably simple and obvious questions...

Hello, as a complete newcomer to UNIX/Linux Os's and KDE which I have running in full enhanced mode (KDE 3.4.2) on an Eee (in a desperate attempt to find out if I can finally move away from MS Windows forever...), what I have seen so far is seriously impressive but I have been stumped by 3 probably simple issues, these are:

1. When I place items on the KDE desktop (Skype, Firefox etc) they are fine for that session, but after a reload they disappear...? I have tried all of the obvious parameters but nothing seems to work...!

2. I have formatted a 2Gb SD card as a 2nd drive, but every time I load the system it comes up with a "MMC-SD removable storage device found, which program do you want to open it with?" panel... is there any way I can stop this from appearing? A minor problem I know but a pain none the less...

3. And finally, how do I find out what version of Linux I am running, and is there a default password for SU?

I can hear the howls of laughter out there already...! be gentle with me...

Thanks

1. I'm not sure, but I think you may have to save your session. If that's the case, try searching google or asking how to do that.

2. When I get that screen, There's usually a 'do nothing' option, as well as a 'Always do this for this type of media' check box.

3. "uname -a" on the command line should give you the version of the kernel. Is that what you mean?
I'm going to assume you're using one of the 'easy/user-oriented' linuxs, in which case, the root account probably has a default, random password set. (This can probably be changed via some setting or other). Unless there's a good reason to use "su" though, which will make you the root user, you can use "sudo <command>", which will run a single command as if you were the root user. The password for sudo is your user password.
