KMail: Preview Pane

Apologies in advance if this question is covered elsewhere; I searched but did not find anything.

I am diving in headfirst in switching from WinXP to Linux (Dell Inspiron 1420N, Ubuntu pre-loaded, running Kubuntu). I was already using Thunderbird in XP, but want to switch to using Kontact in Kubuntu.

My first observation/question regarding KMail involves the message preview pane: do any menu commands or keyboard shortcuts exist to show/hide the preview pane? Both Thunderbird (F8 keyboard shortcut) and Outlook (Show/Hide Preview Pane menu command/toolbar button) allow this functionality, but I cannot find anything similar in KMail.

(Note: I have found the KMail configuration option to display the preview pane; I would like to have the option of changing this option "on the fly".)

Thanks in advance!

RE: KMail: Preview Pane

Is there a better thread for me to ask this question?

RE: KMail: Preview Pane

I would be happy to write a menu button/icon to show/hide the preview pane, although the closest I've ever come to such a thing is making toolbar/menu buttons in MS Office.

Might someone be able to point me toward the right resource for making custom menu buttons for KMail? I'd be happy to learn how to do it - and to share it, if there's any interest.

Thanks again,
