Kmix icon/Kpowersave question

Hello all,

Maybe some one out there could help me. I just finished install Fedora 7 on my dell E1405.

When I boot up I don't see the volume controler (speaker icon) on the taskbar.
I have to go into the media and click on kmix. How can I make this start up when I log in.... I searched the forum and on the net for an answer...

Also for some reason when I try to configure kpowersave it crasheds... is anyone having this kind of problem also?

Any kind of help would be great..

Place a symbolic link to the kmix executable in your ~/.kde/Autostart directory. Don't know about Kpowersave, sorry.

RE: Kmix icon/Kpowersave question

Right click on the task bar, then choose "Add Applet to Panel". You'll find them all there.

You're right sid, but the tool you get from the Applet menu is not exactly the same as the kmix you can manually launch. Don't ask me why, since kmix works great! :)

Your right. I've just had another look, and if you start KMix and go to settings you can select "Enable System Tray volume control", but watch out for the last setting "Disable automatic startup on login". Mina has everything selected except that last one, plus the radio buttons show "None" and "Horizontal"

The Powersave is another problem. Again it has a "Start on login" function in Settings on the General Settings tab under Miscellaneous. But, I have Suse 10.2 on two laptops, a Dell Inspiron 1300, and an Acer TravelMate 2304. Powersave has all the right functions and works properly on the Dell, but not on the Acer. The Dell shows when it is plugged in to AC and the charging level, and when unplugged it shows that and the battery level. The Acer only shows the small power plug icon and not the actual state. I did try FC6 on the Acer about 6 months ago and it had lots of other problems so I didn't get very far before going back to Suse. PowerSave relies on some other stuff to detect hardware settings using lm-sensors and I have had a lot of trouble with that. It seems to be very dependant on the hardware and BIOS.
Best wishes

Weirdly enough, my last option in the KMix settings is "Restore volumes on login", which is obviously not the same as "Disable automatic startup on login"... KMix 2.6.1, KDE 3.5.7.
It's really not a problem for me to have Kmix in my Autostart directory, but this is a bit strange. Oh well... :)
