can't start non-kde/qt apps from kde menu/panel/konqueror

a week ago my kde started acting up. all of a sudden it was impossible to start my non-kde/qt native apps anymore. xchat, eclipse, firefox all refuse to start a window. if i click on the firefox button, there's even an instance of firefox and the mozilla-launcher in the process list, but no window will come up. applications like licq, amarok or ktorrent start normally. i can't even right click my pdf files and start the acrobat reader that way.

all those applications work normally if i just start them from a command line! i've asked so many ppl and looked around a lot, but there's no one having the same issues. is it possible to somehow debug that? there must be an error message of some kind somewhere. i just have no idea where to start looking.

can anyone please help me here?

looks like kdeinit is to blame.
You can test that with the command

kdeinit_wrapper command

thx for the reply... that somewhat helped. i found out that kdeinit_wrapper wouldn't start any non-kde apps if another instance of it isn't already running. like if a firefox window is open, "kdeinit_wrapper firefox" will open up a second window. i also found out that kwrapper WILL start the apps normally.
