Logon screen shifted to the right

Hi
Linux Noob here. I have a 1440x900 display. The logon screen is shifted to the right at the correct native resolution of 1440x900. After logon the desktop covers the entire screen at the correct native resolution.

It almost seems like a different xorg, conf file is in useduring logon versus after logon.

Any help would be appreciated

Tim

Dunno how to fix this, but i think you may find the solution in the configuration of KDM.
Perhaps KDM is using a theme that has a static size, causing the problem you discribed.

Would you know what program is responsible for displaying the login screen? is it kdestart, kwin ?
Any help would be appreciative

KDM

Check $KDEDIR/share/config/kdm/kdmrc (or similar location) for configuration stuff
Check http://kde-apps.org for a kdm theme manager
Check http://kde-look.org for other kdm theme's that fit better to your resolution.

Thanks Rinse

Another data point - connected the monitor to a Belkin KVM switch. I had disconnected it to isolate the troubleshooting process. Machine booted had full screen all the way from boot to desktop - at a non - native resolution. checked the xorg.conf file and something changed it. The 1440x900 native resolution wasn't listed. Connected the monitor directly to the PC again and the screen is shifted to the right on the login manager but I have native resolution for the desktop. This is a minor problem but I'm trying to solve it so I can learn my way around linux.

Thanks for the pointers.

update

Just check xorg.conf and i have 1440x900 as a screen resolution. I also ran nvidia-settings and moved the resolution from auto to 1440x900 and i checked the screen refresh rate, I changed it from auto to 75Hz and Voila the screen shifted to the right. Changed it to 60 Hz and its centered properly. So the login manager is using a screen refresh rate of 75 hz.

Maybe its a Nvidia driver problem. I'll post this thread at nvidia linuix forum as well.

Getting closer.
