no item in the index of the Control Center of KDE

Hello,

I have a problem with my debian etch (4.0). I have lost the items which are normaly located on the Control Center Index (on the left side). How to restore these items?
I don't understand why I've lost them.

If it's not possible to restore the items, anyone could explain to me how to reduce the size of the Desktop icons (they are too big)?

Thank you very much

Regards.

RE: no item in the index of the Control Center of KDE

Thank you for the answer,

So, if I well understand I must ask my question to a debian forum because there is environments variables will be fixed at the corrects value (I don't know what is the correct value for these variables).

Maybe, these variables have the same values in the Debian Sarge OS (I have KDE 3.3 also).

Thank you and I will go back to this forum later.

Bye.

For desktop icons size:
KDE Control Center->Appereance & themes->Icons->Advanced:
Desktop/File manager -> set to desired size

I have found ...

The answer is at the following link : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=397057.

My solution :

I have listed the files in the following directory :
/etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged : kde-essential.menu and kde-multimedia-music.menu
/etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications-merged : kde-multimedia-music.menu

I copy the file kde-esential.menu in /etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications-merged directory.

I restart my session and I've got items in the kcontrol left size !!!!

Bye.

for the impatient followers of me reading this:

in a temp directory somewhere (replace the .deb file with yours):

dpkg-deb -X /var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-data_4%3a3.5.5a.dfsg.1-2_all.deb .
cp ./etc/xdg/applications-merged/kde-essential.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged/

and just to make sure:

cp ./etc/xdg/applications-merged/kde-essential.menu /etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications-merged/
