RE: kmix on desktop

Had the same problem. At the moment of writing, I cannot check if KMix offers an option to popup at startup. You should check that first.

As a workaround, I created a window rule for KMix to hide it automatically. Rightclick a window title bar, and choose Window Behaviour. Then choose Window Specific Behaviour. In this section, you can create specific rules for certain application windows, like KMix in this case.

Same workaround on my kmix... i found it using google some time ago.
However I wish to discover the cause... therefore I still work on this problem... I not like workarounds :-)
Thank you very much

Come to think of it, which KDE version are you using? If it's older than KDE 3.5 you should try to upgrade it. There's a chance that this has been fixed in the meantime.

I have some problem using kde 3.4.x or 3.5.x
I can resolve if I disable 'kmilo' service in control center... but if I disable it, the audio-keys on my DELL not work!
I think this is a bug in Kmilo... have you some suggestion for me?
Thank you very much :-)

What exactly happens with your kmix popup? I guess it's automatically started when you log in? But you do not only see the icon in the taskbar but also the main window, is that what you mean?
I had the problem described above. Then I found out that kmix got started twice when logging in. So I deleted my entry in ~/.kde/Autostart/ and it worked fine. This is the expected behaviour, when you start kmix a second time, the main window will pop up. In my case, kmix was once started because the session was restored, and once because of an entry in ~/.kde/Autostart/.

But I don't know if this is your problem or if your problem is something else, as I do not understand what you mean by "kmix panel popup".

I'm sorry for my very bad english :-(
When I start KDE (startx) and Kmilo service is enabled, it open Kmix window on my desktop... and I must close it with ESC key.
If I disable Kmilo, when I start KDE it don't open Kmix on the desktop... and I see the icon near the clock in the taskbar: this is what I wish!
Unfortunately if I disable Kmilo... the audio keys of my DELL laptop not work! Can you help me?
P.S.) My ~/.kde/Autostart is empty...!

I activated the Kmilo service and logged in once again. Kmix started as expected, without showing the main window, only the nice little icon in the taskbar.
I configured kmix to start when I log in (via ~/.kde/Autostart/kmix.desktop) and KDE to start with an empty session, this works fine for me. Does your session get restored when you log in? If this is the case, you should try starting with an empty session an see what happens.

See my comment at the top of the thread to 'fix' this (posted on 22 February 2006).
