amarok

Hi

I Installed my suse 9.3 with amarok etc. Unfortunately amarok won't play any mp3 (didn't check wav's etc.). Realplayer does, so it is no hardware problem I guess.

Anybody an idea what can be wrong? I get my playlist etc. but when I click paly, nothing happens.

Thanks for your help

most likely you haven't installed multimedia support on suse, isn't it? suse out-of-the-box can't play many things cuz it's illegal to do so due to some stupid patent laws (mostly US).

anyway, look for a suse multimedia how-to (google will help you find it quickly).

btw opensuse 10.0 is much faster than 9.3, and 10.1 will be much much faster again ;-) so it might be a good idea to upgrade if you have time...

Hi

Thanx. I Guess you are right. But I am upgrading to 10.0 already so I can't check now.

Thanx for your suggestion.

I know on Kubuntu, the package that eluded me for a long time was a package called "libxine-extracodecs", I installed it and now Xine (and also amaroK) plays mp3 files without a hitch.

You'll probably have to do the same thing on your 10.0 install.

good luck!

Thanx for your help.

I installed Suse 10.0 with all its updates and now it works :-) Not sure why. But as a newbie, I check this out in a next installation. For the time beeing I am happy I got this to work and have a lot of other stuff to find out.
