crypto installation error on KDE 3.5

I am having trouble installing crypto. It might be a problem with libutil, my binutils, or perhaps just crypto. Or perhaps I have it configured incorrectly. The error message in bash goes as follows when attempting to install this section of kde 3.5:

Are you using crypto to encrypt the home directory? or a partition?

I've never tried crypto; have you tried dmcrypt?

Crypto is part of my installation for kdebase. For some reason unknown to me, it refuses to compile.

Are all the dependancies are up to date? Have you tried reinstalling openssl?

All the dependancies are up to date. I've tried several versions of OpenSSL and libtool as well.

Have you installed the libssl-dev headers?
