hiding "file:" prefix

Greetings All:

Let me start by saying that I love KDE!!! Even though I know GPL
politically speaking I should love GNOME since the QT is not GPL, but
still, I just think that KDE is so konprehensive and kooooooooooool!

Anyways, I have one small question about Konqueror: How do I hide (or
remove) the "file:" prefix that appears before every director/filename
in the address bar. In other words, if I want to open /usr/doc, how do
I make Konqueror show:

/usr/doc

in the address bar instead of:

file:/usr/doc

I saw the the file manager in GNOME did not add any prefix, I'm a bit
orthodox and believes in the "holy root", namely the first "/" has to
come in front of everything else ;-) Just some pet peeve I have.

Regards,

IMO you can't. Konqueror shows you URL for the file/directory you are viewing (that's why that toolbar is called address bar, not a path bar) --- its a web browser after all.

Then use gnomish file manager instead. If you were real orthodox, you would use command line tools ;)

thanks

Thank you jacek. I understand now and can wholy enjoy the wonders of KDE

maybe I'll look into Konqueror's source sometimes and try to recompile it without the file:, after all, that is the reason for open-source.

as for gnomo file manager, i think it's lacking a lot of features and doesn't look as kool when compared to kde file manager.

yeah, the most orthodox thing to do would be to open up konsole, which i do on a frequent basis, but it's heart-warming and eye-candying to see pictorial iconogrpahical representation of my files and folders once in a while.

I think the address input widget is actually in kdelibs/kdeui but even more impact could have to look into KURL::prettyURL for file: URLs, as I think this method is called whenever an address is displayed.

Thanks, Andy-skoa.

I got the slack source discs right here [pointing to the dvd on my right hand, i've put all 4 isos on the same disc].

just need an iso viewer to extract the kde source out, i don't want to burn extra cds for non-installation purposes.

You can mount iso images independend if they are on a CD medium or not.
If they are not but on the harddisk you can mount thme through a so called loopback

#> mount -t iso9660 -o loop /path/file.iso /mountpoint

thank you, anda_skoa, I also found out about the loopback from Novell's tech support site.
