konqueror - creation date disabled?

Hi,

when browsing a directory in detailed view, I can't view the creation date. When I tried to enable this column, I saw it was disabled..? see screenshot for clarification

How to enable it?

RE: konqueror - creation date disabled?

Greetings:

From asking around on comp.os.slackware.linux I heard that it is a problem of the LInux Kernel not supporting file creation date -- since the original UNIX didn't either.

I'm also in the situation of needing file creation date, guess we're just out of luck here, unless I can do a hack on the kernel and filesystem to add in creation date, which i don't have time for.

I guess a quick workaround would be to program a short C code creating the file while puttin the time of creation into a separate companion file.

RE: konqueror - creation date disabled?

hi gunner,

thank you for the clarifying information. I didn't know it was such a low level issue..
So it seems KDE is already prepared for the day linux kernels (or FS?) will support it :) (okay, they probably provide for fat, can't check right now)

Mattie:

Keep tuned to this thread, I'll post my code here once I've programmed it.

These days I just become lazier and lazier, there are tons of web pages and documentations that I'm supposed to do for my coop job, but I'm lacking the motive to get them done. Nasty GRE essays kept grabbing me by the throat.

Mattie:

oh? so kde gives you the option of adding file creation date field to konqueror, but that the option just does nothing?

imho, i think it's done for compatibility reasons [windoze files and filesystems]
