[kopete] message to self?

OK. It will be quicker for me to write a quick-and-dirty jabber client that just knows how to send trivial messages. Pity, because that's exactly what I thought I could avoid simply by using a "dcop kopete ... " command. Seems a bit weird that one can use such a command to send messages to anyone except oneself, but I guess that there must be some inherent limitation built into kopete somewhere. Odd, because other jabber clients (e.g., psi) allow one easily to send oneself messages, which is oft...

Where do I find complete documentation for all the possible parameters to the "dcop kopete" command?

RE: [kopete] message to self?

Quoted Originally posted by mart_k Maybe it is an option to register another account and add that one to your contact list. That way, you can put yourself in the contact list (because Kopete doesn't know it is yourself). Yes you can do that -- but then when you send the message via "dcop kopete ..." you get TWO windows pop up with the message :-( [one for the sender, and one for the recipient, I think.] I haven't been able to figure out any way just to have a single window appear.

[kopete] message to self?

How do I send a message to myself? I tried adding myself as a contact, but kopete says I can't do that :-( Just in case it isn't obvious why I would want to do this: for example, when I am doing a long compilation, it is handy to use "dcop kopete ..." to send myself a message when the compilation completes. There are lots of similar reasons for wanting to do this.

[KOPETE] Setting the auto-away message

OK. That doesn't seem like very sensible design. I will frequently set my "Away" message to something like "gone for lunch" or "on a phone call" or "in a meeting". Then I'll come back to work and may easily not touch my computer for half an hour whle sitting at my desk working at something at else, so apparently Kopete will tell people that I'm still at lunch or whatever once auto-away kicks in -- which means I daren't use Kopete at work, because I don't want peopel to think I'm still eating lun...

[KOPETE] Setting the auto-away message

Running 0.10.3, I can set the auto-away to trigger after 10 minutes of inactivity (in Away Settings), but where do I set the status message that people will see when Kopete goes into auto-away mode? (People are telling me that they are seeing me as still online.)

[KOPETE]: How to enter secret GPG key?

Well, after spending quite a bit of time on this, I have been unsuccessful in getting Kopete to find the secret key. I have no idea where it's looking, and I can't find any documentation to tell me either (1) where it's looking; or (2) how to tell it to look somewhere else :-( I guess I'll just use Psi as my IM client (that had its own issues _using_ the key, although it could find it OK, but those problems are now solved, so at least I have one secure IM client on my new Linux box).

[KOPETE]: How to enter secret GPG key?

I didn't -- but I do now (actually, just for the record, it seems that kgpg is a separate RPM from all the other kdeutils, presumably for legal reasons). Anyway, unfortunately, it makes no difference. Kpgp can see my keys just fine, including the secret key. But the dialogue in Kopete is still empty. I wonder where Kopete is looking for the key? Obviously, it's not looking in the right place. I have a couple of other GPG-aware programs and they can find the secret key just fine.

[KOPETE]: How to enter secret GPG key?

I have GPG installed and working. I also have Kopete 0.10.3 from the Mandriva 2006.0 x86_64 distribution, running under KDE 3.4.2. When I try to configure the Cryptography plug-in, it allows me to select the secret key, but when that dialogue opens, it is empty. How am I supposed to enter my secret key?
