KPDF printing

Several times a day I need to print PDF files, most of which are 100+ pages. I have KPDF 5.2 and Adobe Reader 7.08 on my Ubuntu Dapper and-64 computer. Adobe Reader prints very quickly, almost at the rated speed of the printer (24 pages per minute). However, it is not CUPS-aware, so its print dialog box is not capable of accessing all the features of the printer. KPDF can access almost all the features of the printer, but it prints extremely slowly. I mean, it prints at 1-2 pages per minute. The...

KMyMoney Flashing Red

KMyMoney Flashing Red

I've been looking for a personal finance manager and KMyMoney may be it. But I can't figure out how to enter a transaction. I opened a new checking account with a zero balance. Later I deposited $100 into it. The $100 was not income. It was cash I had in my pocket. I entered it as a deposit in KMyMoney, but the transaction flashes red. This looks like something is wrong, but the Help files don't say what flashing red means, or how to fix it. Does anyone know?

RE: Kdar Crashing

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to send a bug report with the Help menu in Kdar, but no matter what I tried it was unable to find the network. Eventually I gave up and did it manually from my e-mail client. No response so far, but it's been only a couple of days. Meantime, it continues to crash the whole computer on about one out of three backups. I've never needed to do a restore, but it does not inspire confidence. What if the restore function is equally broken? I mean, even the bug report ...

Kdar Crashing

Compaq Presario R3240 AMD-64 laptop Ubuntu-64 Breezy, Gnome shell (OK, OK, chill.) Kdar is the only backup solution I have found that works for me. There are like thousands of Linux backup tools, but almost all of them are designed for huge installations with a gazillion workstations. I just have a laptop that I want to back up to a 60 GB external USB pocket drive. And I want to do it only when I get to a point where I have created enough new files to make it advisable to do a backup. Thus, ther...

Konqueror as file maanager only?

Vdboor and Rinse, Thanks for your suggestions. I am going to try them. However, I'm kind of new to Linux so it will require some study to figure out exactly how to do some of them. I have this page bookmarked and I am going to work on it as soon as finals are over (next week! Ack!).

Konqueror as file maanager only?

Quoted Originally posted by Rinse Quoted The Help > About window says it is Konqueror 3.4.3 (Using KDE 3.4.3). I don't know if there are newer versions, but this is the latest version that is available in Synaptic. kde 3.5.1 should be available as well. It's not listed in Synaptic. I use 64-bit Ubuntu Breezy. Lots of things are not available because no one has made a 64-bit .deb file and put it in one of the standard archives. Quoted Quoted In order to search for files I have kfind installed. A...

RE: Konqueror as file manager only?

Quoted And Konqueror thinks it's an internet browser, has no search utility, and can't mount removable drives. When I used to use Windows I swore at Windows Explorer, but it's way better than anything I've found for Linux. <sigh> Quoted What version of Konqueror are you using? Mounting removable devices is no problem (try to type media:/ in KDE 3.4 or higher). And what kind of search functionality are you looking for? In the Tools menu there's an option to search files. First, as to the klaunch...

Konqueror as file manager only?

Man, I'm having a helluva time. I thought I had it configured to start faster. But today after getting home from the university (where I didn't use it all day) I restarted the laptop and then went to launch it. It's back to it's slug-like launch process. It takes over 60 seconds to launch. Then I needed to make a backup, so I launched kdar. In the process I decided to fix a couple things in kdar that have been annoyances for some time. First, it always announced that it couldn't fnd kwallet. So ...

Konqueror as file manager only?

Thanks. I've added it now to my applications listings in Gnome, so next time I need it I can find it. I tweaked a few things in it and now Konqueror is loading a lot faster. But I have one more question -- I note the command to launch it is "kfmclient openURL %u." What does the last part of that command do -- the "openURL %u" part?

Konqueror as file maanager only?

Quoted Originally posted by vdboor I think you're looking for the option: Control Center -> KDE Components -> Componente Chooser -> Web Browser. I know I was there once before, but now I can't find Control Center. I use Gnome. But I know KDE must be installed because I have so many KDE apps. It's just that KDE Control Center is not in the Gnome application drop-down list. I think last time I had to launch it from the command line. But I've forgotten what it's called.

Konqueror as file maanager only?

Ubuntu-64 Breezy, Gnome desktop, on my Compaq AMD-64 laptop I really like Konqueror as a file manager. I've tried a lot of them and it is the best. However, I use Firefox exclusively for my browser. When I launch Konqueror it takes forever. I suspect that is because it is looking for a net connection, because if I am someplace where I don't have a net connection I can go have lunch waiting for it to come up. Is there a way to tell it never to go to the internet?

Kdar locks up Linux

From the About menu: Kdar 2.0.6 using KDE 3.4.3 Trying to back up /home on my Ubuntu-64 Breezy laptop to a 60 GB external USB pocket drive. I got it to start the archive, which should have amounted to about 1.5 GB. When the progress bar got to 67% (102.5 MB) it stopped adding, although the timer kept on ticking away the seconds. Then the timer stopped and the whole computer was locked up. Keyboard dead, mouse dead -- locked up tight. Had to hit the power button to get out and then reboot. I look...

Kword, Kivio together?

I have been using OpenOffice.org since forever. However, I need a flowchart type application for my Ubuntu-64 Breezy laptop. Everyone recommends Kivio, so I installed it. Then I went ahead and installed the whole suite. A couple questions immediately arose: 1) I note that I can get a Kivio-like frame in the middle of a Kword document. But I can't figure out if it's part of the Kword document, or did it just pop up Kivio as a separate utility. The Kword documentation says nothing about it. Are th...

RE: Konqueror settings confusion

Computer is Compaq laptop with 64-bit Ubuntu Breezy, usng Gnome shell. I've been using Konqueror for some time now (for file management only) and I like it very much, except for one problem. Whenever I click on a file Konqueror thinks I want to launch it or open it in whatever application is associated with it. This makes it impossible to drag files around. I want to change it so a single-click _selects_ the file and a _double-click_ launches or opens it. I've looked everywhere but I can't find ...

Konqueror settings confusion

Quoted Originally posted by anda_skoa The trash things is weird. Actually KDE and GNOME should be implementing the same trash specification exactly for the interoperability thing and I think both versions are new enough for that. Maybe you can ask on a Ubuntu forum to clear that up. Yes, I'll do that. In the meantime I just deleted the Trash Applet 2.12.1 from my toolbar. I never liked its icon anyway. Quoted Konqueror has a "search files" entry in its tools menu. The standalone KDE program for...

RE: Konqueror settings confusion

Oh wait -- one more problem. How do I search for files? After uninstalling Nautilus the "Places > Search for files" in the Gnome panel no longer works. As I recall, it opened up a search window in Nautilus. Since Nautilus is now banned from my computer I need some way to search for files, preferably a GUI.

RE: Konqueror settings confusion

Quoted kfmclient exec /home/yourusername That works great! Quoted 3) Sometimes I want to go up to a system folder and Konqueror won't open it. I'm sure this is because I am logged in as jjj, not as root. That is a strange behaviour I haven't experienced yet. Can you give an example path that triggers this? I have no explanation, but suddenly it is working. Quoted 4) I set it to tree view, but it does not display a "tree," at least not in the way I think of a tree view. Try the sidebar (F9 toggl...

Konqueror settings confusion

Using Konqueror on Ubuntu 5.10-64 (Breezy), in Gnome shell, because Nautilus is buggy and eats files. (Don't ask, unless you want a long diatribe.) Trying to configure Konqueror the way I want it, but can't find the right buttons. I want to use it only as a file manager, never as a browser, but it's OK if the browser features are there -- I can just ignore them. 1) Konqueror always opens in a window that is too small. How do I get it to remember the size the window was when it was last closed, o...
