Random freezing

Having looked at your link I suspect that is so. And no solution yet? Maybe this will get sorted in 3.5.5 ...

Random freezing

I am getting some random freezing in KDE Pim. It is most noticeable when messages are being downloaded. After a while the system unfreezes and carries on as normal. Any ideas what this might be and a solution? Thanks Dave Smith

Files to backup

BTW, would you know what causes the error message "Could not connect to host localhost"? Although it does not seem to be causing a particular problem, I get this when I do a manual download of e-mails.

Files to backup

Thanks. That certainly seems a lot easier than trying to identify each individual file.

Files to backup

Thanks for the information. I had hesitated to re-install the whole .kde directory because on a re-instalation you may not install all the same applications. Would I be right in thinking that if you do re-install the whole of the .kde directory any new settings would simply overwrite the old ones?

Files to backup

I am trying to find out which files might contain the following information: 1. in Contacts - the file which keep the details of categories 2. in Kmail - the file that keep the details of passwords for e-mails Thanks Dave Smith

Kaddress - categories

I have just added a new category to my contact list and was invited to 'Merge with existing categories?'. I selected to merge and now my 722 list of contacts has shrunk to 22! What have I done and where are the rest of my contacts? Thanks Dave Smith

Help With Kontact Calendar Printing

That's interesting because I have exactly the opposite problem. My To Do's are being printed and I cannot utrn this feature off becasue it is greyed out. I was looking for the approriate file in ~/.kde/share/config which is where I suspect I might be able to alter this but cannot find the right file. Can anyone advise on this? Dave

Calendar - Malformed URL

All of a sudden (and completely unprovoked!) KDE 3.5 has decided to eliminated all my diary comittements and replace them with an error message saying "Malformed URL". Can anyone suggest how to acces my diary again? I've checked std.ics in ~/.kde/share/app/korganiser and there is a file there of 160.5 KB so I suspect my diary is still and the problem is accessing it. Thanks Dave Smith

Backup nightmare!

Thanks for your observations. I actually resolved the issue with contacts by importing from where I saved my backups. That worked well. The only other thing I had to do was to copy the ~/distlists file to reproduce some distribution lists I had created. The e-mail has proved far more problematic and I am still working on that. I am hoping your comments will point me in the right direction. On a general point, I have seen this issue raised on more than one occassion and there is no easily underst...

Backup nightmare!

I know from reading this forum that kmail, kontacts etc are stored in $home/.kde/share/apps and $home/.kde/share/config but I am still getting problems because it seems there is more than one file to back up and copy. I am experiencing two problems after having copied what I thought were the correct files: 1. I now can't save any changes to contact details, and 2. whilst I have the subject headings for all my old e-mail messages there is are no actual message and when I try and open the e-mail t...

Keyboard problem

Yes, I had a warning message like that too. But it came and went so quickly that I didn't have a chance to think about it. I suspect that it might be triggered by a shortcut key. Anyway, at least we now have an answer. Dave

Keyboard problem

Andy I'm glad this worked for you too. It took me three days to work out what the problem was. What I don't understand is why is happened in the first place. Maybe that's one of the mysteries of new technology. Welcome back to KDE! Dave

Keyboard problem

Nick In fact, the answer turned out to be a lot easier than that. I went into Control Centre -> Regional & Accessability->Accessability->Keyboard filters and then turned off the use slow keys feature. This is obvious something to assist users with disabilties. Quite how that got changed remains a mystery. After three days of Googling I eventually solved the problem in two seconds! Phew! Is this why I love computers? Thanks for your suggestions though. problems re-installing

Just to let the list know that I solved the problem by "importing" both contacts and e-mails rather than trying to copy the files. I'm sure there is a better way but at least I survived by doing things this way. Thanks to those a read and who replied.

I kept the same ID etc as far as I know. But your suggestion for a way of doing this in the future is helpful.
