Hi all, I see on kde-look.org lot of nice so-called 'plasma themes'. That's cool people trying out kde4 can play with new themes. Now, here is my question: is there somewhere some kind of documentation about plasma theming we, 'average users' (if there is such thing in the linux world lol), can use to design plasma theme ? And by the way, what does mean 'plasma theme' ? What parts of the interface can be modified, changed, transformed, themed ? I may have looked at the wrong places but I haven't...
Being able to play from within KDE with some 3D basic effects such as shadow/transparency without modifying no config file AND without being forced to go through an over bloated GTK config app such as the Beryil manager (nice project like Compiz btw but both are in no way KDE friendly, they have been designed with Gnome in mind from start and the 'relative' workability on kde is just a bonus, those people don't give a shit about kde users).
Quoted what kind of deep changes to the interface are needed and not done in kde4 as it would appear at this moment? Well I'm just an user among the crowd and my opinion may not be very important so I'm not sure this or that is needed but I would have expected kde4 to 'start' gettin rid of, i.e., the 'multiple toolbars syndrom' and think of other ways to do things.
Quoted Kde 4 would need to change things deeply and from everything I've read so far there is absolutely no sign they will, worst I see clear signs they won't I was not thinking of pure technology or coding such as Decibel or Phonon, etc. I was thinking of interface.
What I'd like from kde 4 is the power and the beauty. The power : the abilities and the features to perform my job or whatever thing I'm working on. Graphics, sound, video, multimedia, office stuff, coding, etc. but also advanced settings to tune the system the way I want. It has already pretty much all I need (not all). A higher speed. Some apps are slow to show up. Of course it may be related to the apps but I find kde a bit sluggish (I don't mean to enter a 'speed war' : on my system it's as f...
Well you tell me kde3 hig won't conflict with qt4 and I trust you since I'm not much of a coder. So I understand when kde4 will be out it will 'mostly' look the way kde3 look and it will take some time to found and polish the kde4 HIG. That is a huge disappointment to me and I believe for lot of people out there. You can put a rocket engine in an old car, engineers can be impressed by the design, for most people it's still an old car. Of course it's still better than a Ferrari with a Ford T engi...
I've been reading for some months now that many kde apps are being ported to QT4. Some are already QT4 compatible. That sounds great. My question is : where is the kde 4 Human Interface Guidelines ? Right now, correct me if I'm wrong there is no KDE4 HIG available. Not yet. All I found was : a KDE 4 Human Interface Guidelines Developers Survey by Celeste Lyn Paul, June 2006 (check it out here) and a KDE4 Human Interface Guidelines Information Design Document also by Celest Lyn Paul (here July 20...
Hi I'm using kubuntu 6.10 (kde 3.5.5). My system is up to date afaik. Problem #1 : I have unchecked the option 'Show Device icons' in Desktop configuration so I shouldn't see any icon related to devices, right ? Well, I do. Right now I have a 'cdrom0' icon on my desktop (kubuntu dvd in drive). I have tested the following : removing cd/dvd from the drive, icon disappears, inserting cd/dvd in drive : icon pops up. Any idea ? Problem #2 : Desktop icons are moving every time I get on the kde desktop...
That is exactly what I did. The funny thing is I spent hours testing my theme (coding xml/logout/login/modifying/logout etc.) and I just found some help about the greeter.dtd : http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.15/thememanual.html and for the guys reading french : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/applications/personnalisation/gdm and for those reading spanish : http://www.techno.mayix.net/howto-gdm-theme/ So people looking desperatly for that stuff, bookmark ! ;-)
Hi all, I'm working on a kdm theme and I'm looking for a tutorial or howto or any kind of help for designing kdm theme. I have found nothing so far. What I need is specifically all about the xml file and its content (available tags) Thanks
Correct me if I'm wrong but so far, it's not possible to edit text already set on a layer which means the first shot must be the right one. Since I believe it's a very basic function average users need and I haven't found the Krita roadmap, I'd like to know if someone knows when it might be added to Krita features. Thanks
Reading stuff about KDE4 (and I'm quite excited about it), I was thinking of something : maybe KDE4 is more a revolution than an evolution. This point of view is based not only on what I see here and there in the brainstorm sections on forums but also considering globally all the project and its counterparts (appeal, plasma, oxygen, tenor, phonon, etc.). Therefore, I thought maybe it was time to change 'also' the name and/or logo (gears, blue stuff, K, apps names starting with K, etc.) for the w...
I've been playing with Kspread 1.4 recently and I noticed three 'details' I find a lil bit annoying. 1. Opening a new spread sheet, I type a single word in a cell then increase the size of the font up to, say 24. The row height does not adjust automatically to the font size which makes it look really bad. Double clicking on the left (over the number of the row) does adjust the height but it requires one manual operation from the user. Tested on Ooo Calc, Gnumeric and Excel : they do adjust the h...
