I may have found the cause of the problem. I'm reporting the possible solution here in case others encounter this. I noticed that when I would launch Krusader with sudo, a .DCOPserver file owned by root would be created in my /home/username directory and, invariably, the ownership of .ICEauthority in the same directory would subsequently change from username to root. It appears that if I launch Krusader with kdesu instead of sudo, this doesn't happen. Or at least not so far. Note that I'm not ru...
Very often I find that my /home/username/.ICEauthority file has reverted ownership to root. This means that I can't log on as a user to either KDE or XFCE. From the console, I have to change ownership back to my username. I can't figure out what triggers this, but it's an enormous hassle. Does anybody have a fix for this? I'd like to know what causes it and eliminate the cause rather than have a script that automatically does "chown -R -c username /home/username". FWIW, I'm running Slackware 10....
Some additional info: The New Message icon appears properly if I open only KMail. However, if I access KMail from within Kontact, then the icon does not appear. This seems to have something to do with the fact that Kontact has several different toolbars which are separately configurable. I'm thinking there's some sort of conflict among them. If anyone has a solution to this, I'm all ears (well, eyes, since this is a print medium). Thanks.
In Kontact 1.1 (installed with KDE 3.4), I have a problem with the New Message icon disappearing from the toolbar everytime I switch from the Mail component to another component of Kontact, such as Summary. If I then check Settings / Configure Toolbars, I see that the icon is still supposed to be displayed. If I click "Apply", it shows up again. Then when I click to component other than the Mail component, it disappears again. Strangely, this isn't happening with any other icons. Is it an insect...
Well, I finally managed to get the newsticker back by uninstalling and reinstalling kontact. Now I have a problem losing my New Message icon every time I change from the KMail component to another component. I'm posting separately about this in hopes that someone has an answer.
I recently upgraded to KDE 3.4, which now includes Kontact 1.1. I can't find the newsticker plugin for the summary view. I can get newsfeeds using the Feeds component, but that's in a separate window. I'd also like to be able to display some RSS feeds in my summary view, the way I did with previous versions of Kontact. Any ideas? Am I missing something? Thanks.
