Konsole minimize & maximize

Quoted Original von jangofett didnt mean to sound rude or anything and if so, i apologize. You didn't sound rude to me. You just sounded like you weren't coming from my perspective. And I didn't mean to sound insistent. I just have many reasons for liking kb support.

Konsole minimize & maximize

Quoted Original von jangofett why do that? that is silly, you can just move your mouse pointer to the corner of the konsole window and do the same thing. i just dont get this i guess, if you need to resize your konsole window on the fly, why not just make it bigger to begin with? are you typing so much that you cant move your hand to your mouse and resize the window (which is probably faster than using the cursor keys on the keyboard after pressing an awkward key sequence like alt-F6) just tryi...

Can´t change K-menu font after crash

But I would expect the control center to be changing files in your .kde/share directory. That's how it would store your personal changes. Hmm.. Here's an idea: You said that if you change any of the other fonts, your changes take effect, right? You could make such a change and then use the command-line command "find" to find files within the .kde directory newer than a given file (and you would "touch" a temporary file with the date/time desired) so that you could see what was changed. If the me...

Konqueror Queueing

This sounds great. We'd have to make sure that this queuing behavior only applied to potentially time-intensive actions, such as copying and moving. Renaming and directory traversal and permissions changing shouldn't be queued I would think. Perhaps also viewing files. I keep trying to think of cases where if you had queued items and wanted to do some action that was dependent on a queued action that hasn't taken place yet, that you woul d have breakage, but I can't think of any such counterexam...

Trying to get apps to open to a default location.

Noticing that you wanted this to be a default location, assuming that the test run worked, it would be possible to set the DISPLAY variable in your .bash_profile. I'm not sure if that would have the desired effect (would too much go to the alternate screen?) but it would be worth a shot.

Trying to get apps to open to a default location.

The example I gave is assuming that you are starting the program on the command line. Basically, make sure the DISPLAY variable is set to whatever the x dsplay number is of the monitor you are tring to reach (options are probably :0 and :1). Then start your program. If you wanted later to have a GUI button to click on, then when specifying the command for the button, you could probably include setting the DISPLAY variable in the properties of the application button. But my druthers would be tryi...

Max Volume too low

Sometimes on laptops there is a function key combination that mutes or turns up or down the volume. Just like as if you turned up or down your speaker volume on a desktop. Could you confirm that this isn't the case?

Can´t change K-menu font after crash

Isnt it just in Control Center | Look and Feel | Fonts? There is a place to specify font for your menu. Alternatively (and how I found it, though some might consider this convoluted), I ran this command: [code:1] cd ~/.kde; grep -ri font | grep -i menu [/code:1] and found that the setting is probably stored in share/applnk-mdk/System/Configuration/KDE/LookNFeel/fonts.desktop

Re: How can I restore the association icon to the FOLDERS?

You're going to have to provide some more information. It's hard to tell exactly what you're talking about from so little. My questions are below: Quoted Original von AlexXxXxX How can I restore the association icon to the FOLDERS? This FOLDERS icon, was it on your desktop? In some other folder? In an application (Konqueror, maybe)? By "association iccn to the FOLDERS" do you mean a symbolic link? A symbolic link can be created by selecting "Link Here" when dragging an item into a folder.

displaying more info in korganizer

yeah, hmmm.. I didn't see anything like that in there. But one thing you might do to gain alternate functionality is to assign your tasks to categories, assign your categories to colors and then maybe there's some options to say "Yes, show my tasks with category color". I've done that before to show when I needed to be at work/school/out-and-about, and so one. Of course, this would only work well if you were going to consistent places.

KDE Booting on an HD in a machine it wasn't installed on?

Also, check the contents of ~/.xsession-errors (I think that's what it's called). If X has problems starting, oftentimes it will log to there. Check also /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog. As to opening kde from an xterm, that seemed a little obscure to me, and I was just passing along what I found. My first reaction to it is, "If you have an xterm, that means you are in a window manager. Wouldn't it cause problems to start a different window manager while already in one?"

KDE Booting on an HD in a machine it wasn't installed on?

First of all, can you confirm that X is actually running? Normally kde is started through something like gdm or kdm, which in turn is started when spawning an x session in /etc/ttys. If you don't have X running, then kde has no graphical environment to run in. Secondly, if it's a graphical card thing, again I would look at X first. Its in X that those type of settings are set anyway, even (I think) when you change your resolution in KDE. As a troubleshooting technique, maybe try installing and r...

sound system not enabled on startup

No, it's not a bug. The kernel module that controls your sound card is getting loaded when you configure your card, then is unloaded when you log out. The command line way of fixing it is adding an appropriate alias to /etc/modules.conf. However, I think there is a GUI way to do it. I'm just not sure what it is. Anyone? Anyone?

Why do you think Gentoo is the future of Linux Distros?

I thought I'd put in my two cents. I've administered several different Un*ces: * NetBSD * Mandrake * OpenBSD * Debian * Gentoo * Redhat (Fedora and previous) (I'm sure others here have similar lists. Whatever) Regarding gentoo I would give the following pros and cons: Pros * Good documentation. Can bring a newbie up to hard-core command-line speed faster than many others. Those not familiar with some general computing concepts might have problems though (e.g. how a hard disk is partitioned.) I k...

[solved] Infinate KDM loop

Check ~/.xsession.errors or something like it. If your window manager can't start it will shut down X. Since gdm/kdm is respawned (see /etc/ttys), it starts right right up again, seeming like an endless loop. Other places to check are any kde logs, /var/log/* Hope that helps

Konsole minimize & maximize

You might be looking for the general kde keyboard shortcute. In the Control Center | Accessibility | Keyboard Shortcuts (or some such variant) you can find Maximize, Minimize, and many others. This would apply to many more windows than just Konqueror. Maybe that would be an added bonus.

KDE Booting on an HD in a machine it wasn't installed on?

Low-level Xwindows isn't my forte, but googling for [code:1]"unable to open display" xset[/code:1] turned up http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=1889816&forum_id=4714 which says that either you haven't started X yet, or Quoted You don"t have your display set, so you must be running from a terminal that isn"t aware that X is running. Easiest way to make it work is to either start it from an xterm inside of X11... ... and the post continues about a fink-specific fix. Or maybe it...
