Notification Sounds on KDE 3.4.1

Does arts work on your system? If so that should work. If it doesn't then it sounds like it could be a problem with artsd. To make sure it isn't KNotify, change the command to execute to something like kdialog --msgbox "Notifications work", then if it executes the command you should get a popup box saying that notifications work.

Notification Sounds on KDE 3.4.1

I'm having the same problem, a temporary solution would be going into KControl -> Sound & Multimedia -> System Notifications -> Player Settings and change it from using the KDE sound system to using an external player and put in 'artsplay'. That fixes the problem for me, but now all my sounds are really loud (and extremely annoying because watching a movie at a reasonable volume and if I get an IM it hurts my ears its so loud). EDIT: I just noticed that normal wav files work without using my met...

Help Me I Hate Kopete!

0.10 doesn't have support for direct connections (so no pictures or file transfers), chats, buddy icons, and rich text over aim. SVN Trunk has some support for rich text, the AIM protocol is being rewritten from scratch so hopefully that fixes the problems, my friend had the same 10 minute lock out problem as you. It may be a while before AIM is fully supported, AOL isn't renowed for their open protocols, despite them using 'open' in the name (Open System for CommunicAtion in Realtime). Unfortun...

Kicker causing network traffic

Looks like you have kicker running on a different machine than the X server. If so thats the cause of the network traffic (kicker and the X server are telling each other their current state, and if any updates or events happen). btw: port 6000 is generally the default port for X servers. (6001 would be the second x server, 6002 would be the third, etc)

RE: [KOPETE] dcop - getting message text

As far as I can tell there isn't a way to grab the incoming text through dcop. You could write a plugin for Kopete that when there was incoming text it would send it to something else through dcop (the you would have to be constantly checking through dcop for incoming text).

Using fish:// through a router

Actually turning on port fowarding on your router and fowarding a port on your router to SSH's port should be all thats needed. Then you would just do: fish://my-router-ip:port It may be best if you use a non-standard port so you don't attract too much attention (someone may notice it and try and just brute force root).

RE: Individual file icons

Well the mac style doesn't use any sort of archive (it uses folders with ".app" at the end of the name). AFAIK I don't think you can make Konqueror do something like that. What may work better is to go the OS X style and at the top of the folder do something like: Create a file in the top director of the folder called ".directory" and in that file it says something like: Source code 1 2 [Desktop Entry] Icon=./icon.png You would name the icon file "icon.png" (I think this would work, but I don't ...

RE: beagle

A more recent Dot article is http://dot.kde.org/1113428593/. Tenor looks to be a lot more powerful than beagle will.

RE: About autopackage

A KDE front end comes with autopackage. I don't know how well/at all its integrated with KDE (though if autopackages catches on, and I hope it does, it probably will become integrated very nicely w/ KDE). A while ago Autopackage 1.0 was released so it shouldn't be long before it starts appear in distros (maybe it will be in FC4? )

Usefull Tips for KDE

Quoted Originally posted by thegeekster *** SAFETY PRECAUTION*** I must add this footnote to my tip above... When you open up the file manager in superuser mode - make the necessary changes and then CLOSE THE FILE MANAGER IMMEDIATELY when you're done to avoid fubar'ing your system. Do the same for any other app you've configured for superuser mode............................If you leave it open and do other tasks, then come back much later, you might forget you're in superuser mode and make an ...

[Kopete] Where can I edit the away messages in 0.9.1?

I've found that the only way to edit the away message is manually editing the config files by hand (which is considered a bug in KDE).

Kopete doesn't display my text style.

I'm guessing you are using AIM. Unfortunately it seems that Kopete doesn't have support for rich text on the AIM protocol (maybe others too), so you can't setup colors and stuff to be used. I have found a work around if you want to use a specific color, go into Configure Plugins -> Text Effect -> remove all the colors except the one you want (make sure Text Effect is enabled too), and click "Change global text foreground color" (don't know if thats required), and uncheck "Check color every lette...

Konqueror file manager background image

I don't think you can do it like XP does where it automatically picks a background for you based on the dominate type of file... Though you could always request that feature (or create it if you know how to program!) Though I like the 'paper_flieder.png' background image because it makes it easier on the eyes!

Is it possible?

Hm... From the look of that it would take 2 panels on the bottom. The one on bottom would have I guess the K icon still there, then next to it Quick Launcher applet, to the right of that the Taskbar, to the right of that the System Tray, and on the very end the Clock applet. On the top Panel you would have a Application Launcher, and on the far right I'm not sure what those are supposed to be on your picture. Both panels would be set to be transparent (100%). You would have to play around with t...

........need help to develop a s/w 4 icon managment pls anyo

The best place to ask these questions is http://www.kde-look.org since there are many people over there that create icon themes on a regular basis. Also it is kind of hard to understand what people mean when they type like how someone would talk after they just ran a marathon. Probably a good way to try and learn a little is looking in the icons directory. On RedHat systems (and Fedora), the icon directory is generally '/usr/share/icons/'. Each subfolder of that directory is generally a differen...
