Multiple sound devices but no sound in KDE

Go into the Control Centre -> Sound & Multimedia -> Sound System Click on the tab "Hardware", enable "Override Device Location", then type in the name of the device (it might be something like snd-0 or snd-1). Hope this helps, Manuel

KOPETE ~ still cant send with enter

You probably have tried this already, but here's how I did it: Open a chat window, then Settings -> Configure Shortcuts, scroll down to the "Send Message" variable and change it from the default (alt+enter) to merely enter. By the way, universalkopete is a must-have add-on for kopete in my opinion, get it from kde-apps and try it out if you haven't already.

Installing KDE 3.2 on Suse 9.0 Prof

Man, that's exactly the problem I ran into! Well, here's the solution (which did take me a long time to figure out, even though it's so simple): If you're sure you have all qt3 packages, which, from what I can see, you do, then type: rpm -Uhv --nodeps qt3-*.rpm This will cause the rpm program to ignore all dependencies. If, for any of the other packages, an error message like "X conflicts with Y" comes up, simply add "--force" to force-overwrite the conflicting files, which would look like: rpm ...

Konqueror help for novice

Well, normally it should auto-refresh your window, so I suggest re-installing Konqueror. Or maybe auto-refresh is not featured in that version of Konqueror, so you could also install a newer version. Sometimes I have the same problem though, when I'm gone a long time, it no longer auto-refreshes, but it only happens infrequently and as such doesn't bother me, as I can simply press F5 to refresh.

3D Acceleration.

Well first of all do you know whether 3D acceleration is really working? Open a console and type "glxgears" to find out, if the output is something like 2000 fps or close, it's working, if it's like 400fps, it's not. If it isn't working, I suggest going to www.linuxquestions.org and doing a search for nvidia, there's loads of info there. Otherwise, I can't help you 'cos 3d acc. doesn't work on my pc cos my chipset isn't fully supported (yet) :-(

Kopete install - newbie question - where did it go?

Well, first of all, you should deinstall your previous version of Kopete. Then reinstall the new one (0.8.2 or whatever). If there was no error messages, then open the "Run Command..." dialog either from the KMenu of by pressing Alt+F2. If your install worked, type in "kopete", press enter, and it should start. To add it to KMenu, first try the Menu Updating Tool, which is situated under KMenu->Utilities->Desktop. Press "Scan" and see if it finds it itself, if so, select it and press "Apply" and...

no sound at start of KDE 3.2.1!

Hiya, I'm using SuSE9.0 and have just upgraded to KDE 3.2.1. Everything works perfectly, except that when I start KDE, there is no sound whatsoever. Yet once I even open the Sound module from YAST, sound works perfectly. I fixed this by autostarting the sound module, but this still doesn't seem right to me, I still can't hear the login sound 'cos the sound only initialises after everything has started up. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Sorry if I'm missing something simple, I'm a newb...
