Hi guys. I did search for answers on this but search appears to be broken :-( Anyway, how do I compile KDE 342 on Fedora Core 4? Configure complains about having GCC 4 installed; I have the FC compatibility libraries on there also. Thanks! Phil.
I have the same problem with KDE 331 (compiled myself) on FC3. Any help appreciated! Phil.
No xsession-error file is created - checked for that :-) Looked at /var/log/Xorg.log and that's clean too, no errors. Console out put is just the same as when you start it normally then quit, no errors show at all, it all looks completely normal. Phil. Slight amendment to earlier on - GDM login and Gnome as display manager, it all works as it should do.
Hi guys. Ok, completely clean build of 3.3.0 on FC2. I compiled KDE myself. Built and installed, no problems. Now, when I boot up I go to init 3. If I log in as myself (phil) and startx I get to "initializing peripherals" then KDE crashes. Login as root, startx, all starts no problems. Log out, back in as me, startx, and voila all is ok. This happens regardless of whether I init 3 or init 5, and if I'm on init 5 whether i use KDE's login manager or Gnomes. Anyone got any ideas? Phil.
Hi guys. Since I've gone to KDE 3.3 I've noticed that the icons are spaced quite far apart (vertically at least). I have align to grid turned on, running at 1280x1024. Is there anyway to reduce the amount of space between the bottom of one icon and the top of another? Thanks, Phil.
Me too. Does anyone have a fix for this? I'm running KDE 330. The messages I receive on Yahoo chat are coming through in 24 point font, even though I've got all the overrides turned on in Appearance preferences. It's REALLY annoying. Phil.
hi guys. If I do an "init 5" I get the XDM. I have /etc/sysconfig/dekstop as DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE (also tried KDM) and /etc/X11/prefdm set to kdm. I compiled KDE (3.2.2) myself, it's not a distro installation. Any ideas on how to get KDM login/display manager running? Phil. PS - Running on FC2. XOrg as distro installation, but KDE my own.
I tried that but it didn't work - I wasn't sure it would because it's not a file association as such. The ed2k:// links are in web pages... Phil.
Hi guys. How do I register a protocol so that when I click an ed2k link in Konqueror it passes the link to EDonley for downloading? Cheers, Phil.
Hi... I reconfigured my kernel to recognise an MPU401 midi chip as well as my Intel 810 sound chip (nforce 2 chipset on an asus n7v8x deleuxe board). When KDE starts it says that there is no sound device. How do I tell KDE to use "sound-slot-1" which is where the Intel sound processor is? Cheers, Phil.
Thanks man, that link solved it perfectly. Guess I should of searched for myself, first :-) Phil.
You need to use KAppFinder - which brings me onto the subject of my post - KAppFinder is missing from my menu! How can I run it from a shell? I'm not entirely convinced it's installed, so how can I install it - where can I get the source from? Phil.
Hi guys.... When I was using a beta of KDE 3.2 I had an option on my menu to start another KDE session. I've since rebuilt my PC using Fedora 2 test 2 (KDE 3.2.1) but that option is no longer there. As it's a good way to have my wife use Linux I'd like to get it back! I think I'm using the "wrong" X server but not sure how to change it. Any ideas? Thanks, Phil.
Hi guys. On my desktop I have the Kicker bar transparent (I use KSmoothDock and Karamba). The "Sys Tray" part is down the right hand edge of the screen. Problem is some programs (eg Korn) display their icons ontop of a solid grey block which makes my dekstop look real ugly, having 4 or 5 grey blocks randomly splattered down the edge of the screen. Is there anyway to force these apps to make their dock icon background transparent? I use Fedora too, and that has just a solid empty grey block there...
That would be why then - ain't installed KDEPim! Someone really should update the package list in the installation howto :-) Phil.
Yeah the programs themselves. I'll take a look at that, thanks..... hopefully I'll know what I'm looking for when I see it!!! Cheers, Phil.
Hi... Anyone got any ideas on this...? make[3]: Entering directory `/root/kde/kdeaddons-3.2.1/noatun-plugins/blurscope' /bin/sh ../../libtool --silent --mode=link --tag=CXX g++ -Wnon-virtual-dtor -Wno-long-long -Wundef -ansi -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -Wcast-align -Wconversion -Wchar-subscripts -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -O2 -Wformat-security -Wmissing-format-attribute -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE -DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST -DQT_NO_STL -DQT_NO_COMP...
Well I've got KDE up and running, got KDENetwork-3.2.1 installed, but there's no KNode or KMail. Anyone any idea why? There were no errors during compilation. Cheers, Phil.
I found the fix, from another thread - put the directory where kde-config is into your path. Phil.
