Hey everyone got some slackware news. Slackware 10 has finally been released as of 6/26/04 Ive downloaded it and installed it on my laptop. Ony thing is tho i cant figure out how you are supposed to get the 2.6 kernel and the X.org instead of the XFREE86 window system. Well anyway post here if you have any comments.
Yea not many people vote in here there seams not be be a big folowing of slackware (at least in the kde forems). I guess because its more linux like and not more windows like redhat and mandrake
Well I checked on slackwares web page and im not seeing any information on when the next relese is supposed to be out. I will check from time to time tho and post the date as soon as I find out.
Are you also having font issues in kde in general? Check your font size for kde it should be around 14 if its not and its somthing like 34 or 32 then the problem is not with consol and your having an x server issue with fonts. I had that issue when i first installed kde on a LFS system. If your having that issue ill repost with the fix (have to go home i dont remeber off the top of my head) GOOD LUCK
Yes there is a way you can overwrite your old exsisting kde and it says this in the documentation that comes with kdebase you just install it where the old one was installed. In your case i cannot tell you where they installed it but if they were half way competent they installed it in /opt/kde if not good luck looking
Yes its a font and its probably not missing but the pathing is probably not correct for the X server to find the font. Check the XF86Config file for the font paths and make sure that they are correct. (this sounds eazy but its not ) if nothing elese do a search on the whole drive for the iso10646 file and make sure that path showes up somewhere ither by echo $PATH or in the XF86Config file. i hope this helps
witch version of slackware are you using.
For some reason when using vim in slackeware 9.1 I was getting strange behavior and found that it was due to a missing vimrc in the skel file in /etc Im wondering if anyone elese has this issue or has noticed this in the other versions of slackware ?
I can take the slackware group if no one elese wants it
Yea i just noticed that there is 3.1.5 on there site I found an interesting post back in 2002 that refrenced this issue. I havent tried it yet but it looks like the problem that im having I compiled X11 from sources so when you do that it creates a uneeded library called libz.a Now for the strange thing, If you compile X11 from sources and you try and compile kdelibs after installing cups from sources you get this problem now for the solution "rm /usr/X11R6/lib/libz.a" thats it and then you inst...
Yes you need to install kdelibs into whatever location you are installing kdebase ex. bash@computer /usr/src/kdelibs $ ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde-3.1.4 bash@computer /usr/src/kdebase $ ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde-3.1.4 Need to use exaclty the same prefix on each set of packages cannot be even slightly diffrent. try and recompile kdelibs then try kdebase again
keep getting this when trying to run make on kdelibs it configures fine and tells me to run make so i dont know why it keeps getting this error but if anyone has any idea it would be helpfull (KDE-3.1.4) make[5]: *** [make_driver_db_cups] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kdelibs-3.1.4/obj-i386-linux/kdeprint/cups' make[4]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kdelibs-3.1.4/obj-i386-linux/kdeprint/cups' make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving ...

Hey im having a peculiar issue with another of my linux boxes. The linux that is on this computer is a os that i created using the lfs books and the blfs books. 'Note it it very minimal' im trying to get a dial up connection working proplery with it and im using wvdial but i keep getting disconnected after only a few seconds of being connected to my isp. the error im getting is a pppd error 16 the modem hung up it then tells me to check the /var/log/messages file for info but this file does not ...
Yea I remeber that program I liked it to except for the fact that it did not post the messsage when you hit enter (I hate hitting send with the mouse). Do you know of a way to change the prefrences or anything to make it do this or do you still have to hit send?
When are they gonna have the full kernel available for download it seams right now all you can get is the patch with from what i can understand is just a text file. Any help greatly apreciated on what the hell your supposed to do with this file would be nice. P.S. Yes and i have compiled a kernal before but from sources mainly 2.4.22 and i have the sources for that where can i get the sources for 2.6.00
Check the paths for kde open the control center and then go to System administration and then to paths check each user account to make sure that the pathing in the same you could also use $PATH in a bash prompt to get the current pathing. I dont remeber where the x screensavers are in mandrake so i couldent tell you what should be in the path to get it to work but i would wite down the path for a user that the savers work correctly and then go to the one that they dont and check and make sure th...
It looks more like what it says it cannot find your name on the aim network check to make sure your actually connecting to the aim network or that your user name has not been deleted. eazy test try it on a windows box using aim and see if it works if not then its a problem with you account with aol.
Well im not quite sure what your trying to acomplish but if your trying to use that program to connect to messanger you may have more sucess using amsn. Microsoft implimented the msn 9 protocal and now anything not using it will not connect. when you use amsn for the first time you can download somthing that will allow you to get on the msn 9 network here is the web page to the program http://amsn.sourceforge.net/
