Are your MSN id and password capitalised correctly? This can lead to authentication problems.
The Kopete ICQ team have made major changes which solve this problem - it will be fixed in KDE 3.3.
It's still experimental. In fact, it's been disabled in CVS pending further work and the implementation of true jabber multi-user chat.
Once you've fetched the contact name, go to the contact's Properties and disable 'Use the name given by the server'. As you say, there is a limit on the number of user lookups you can do; if we did this automatically we'd get you rate-limited automatically. We are improving the ICQ code but we don't have many developers so progress is slow.
Because they are your config files, they are in your home dir. look under $HOME/.kde/share/ for them.
The problem you describe is from installing Kopete in the wrong place. With KDE 3.2 and SuSE you can get Kopete 0.8.2 in the SuSE rpms. The package you have to install is kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger. Otherwise, you need to read up a bit about how to compile KDE apps, you can't just configure; make; make install and link the executable to /usr/local/bin. If you really want to build the 0.8.2 source (which is the same as the RPM version) read the build and install tips pages at http://kopete.kde....
Sorry - at present, once the chat window is open, we don't blink the tray icon any more. We are aware of this feature request already. You can set up Kopete's notifications to flash the system tray entry of a chatwindow that has got a new message in it, which is nearly as good. Regards Will
Oops, I have the updated manual from CVS here, so I have a bit more information available. That's a neat use of sed to phoneticize. I'll add this to the manual. Bille
<manual> Configure Sounds & Events Sounds, flashing taskbar entries, passive popups and more exotic notifications are supported in Kopete using the KDE notification system. Type help:/kcontrol/kcmnotify in Konqueror or select the Help tab in the System Notifications section of the KControl for more information. You can use the ?Execute a program? notification to perform custom notifications. As an example, if you have XOSD (X On-Screen Display) installed, you can get OSD online notifications by ...
I see you're just talking about MSN file transfers here. When: not sure - one of our developers had a look and the new HTTP based MSN protocol is very complex. Why so low: we don't have enough developertime. Sorry. Bille
So we'll proceed in the same way. To make isolating the bug(s) easier, since they are in 2 different IM systems, could you produce debug output as described above but separately for each protocol. That means back up your Kopete config from $KDEHOME and remove one of the accounts before producing a log. Will
Can you run Kopete from the console and copy the debug output? Then if you send that and the debug information (configure Kopete with --enable-debug=full) included in the KDE crash handler to our mailing list (kopete-devel@kde.org), including your KDE version, your QT version and your Kopete version, we'll be able to see why it is crashing. Will
In that case, send us some debug output. 1) (if possible) Build kopete with debug output - use --enable-debug=full when configuring 2) turn on the AIM debug output at runtime - run kdebugdialog (from kdesdk) and search for kopete, then turn on all the AIM debug streams 3) run Kopete from a Konsole and copy/paste the debug output when connecting, and when it is disconnected. 4) Mail the debug output to our mailing list at kopete-devel@kde.org That will help us fix this. Bille
What are your KDE and QT versions? It looks like you're using Very Old QT 3.0.5, and you need KDE/QT 3.1.x or newer for Kopete.
If you are having persistent problems connecting to MSN using 0.7.4 please post to kopete-devel@kde.org about it. This problem should not occur in 0.7.4 and we'd be glad to solve it. Bille
I assume you're talking about MSN. 0.8beta1 doesn't have a fix for an MSN protocol change. Use CVS or 0.7.4 if you want to use Kopete for MSN. Bille
Please have a look at this bug and see if it's the same. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63286 If it is the same please tag a 'me too' with kopete and kde versions onto the bugzilla entry. We've been trying to track this one down but we're finding it hard to reproduce.
