Any multi-post threads in the new KDE 4 Brainstorm forum are all showing the latest posts at the top. All the other forums seem to be functioning normally--with the posts in chronological order. (I hope this is the proper forum in which to point this out, even it is in the archive section.)
The color of the translucent selection seems to be tied to the background color for selected text, which can be set in the Control Center. For anyone interested, the translucent selection effect can be enabled through the "Appearance & Themes > Style" dialog in Control Center. On the "Effects" tab, change the "Rubberband effect" option to "Make translucent". This works for Debian, but I don't know if the effect's implementation is distro-specific or if it's present in the standard KDE.
Perhaps your problems are related to those discussed in this thread? If anything, your version of dbus might be too new.
The Debian equivalent is zlib1g-dev.
Welcome to KDE. To make the applet handles visible again, you'll need to access the panel configuration dialog. You can access this through right-clicking on the panel and selecting Configure Panel... (which might instead be in a submenu called Panel Menu). If that doesn't work--and perhaps not having applet handles might complicate that--try going in through the Control Center to Desktop > Panels On the Appearance tab, the Advanced Options button will allow you to change the visibility of the a...
After opening up a new instance of Konqueror, maximize the window, then select Save View Profile "Web Browsing"... from the Settings menu. Check the box for Save window size in profile, then press Save. The next time you start Konqueror, it should load using the saved window size (in this case, maximized).
KDE does include a style called "MS Windows 9x" that is similar to the theme from Windows 95/98/2000 (I think that the wizard that runs the first time you log in refers to it as "Redmond"). Many other themes and customizations contributed by the KDE community can be found at KDE-Look.org.
This is actually a "feature" you may have accidentally turned on. To disable it in Kopete, choose from the menu "Settings > Configure Plugins...". Click on "Text Effect" and select the "Effects" tab at the top. "L4m3r t4lk" is probably checked; uncheck it.
It is in the 'Advanced Background Settings' dialog. Right-click on desktop, and select 'Configure Desktop' (as before). Click the 'Advanced Options' button on the right. There's a place to select text color for the background icon text in that dialog. This works in 3.4.1 (and hopefully 3.4.0 too).
Mimetype associations seem to be stored in the directories under ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/ HTH
FYI: For those using Debian sid, it looks like the problem has been fixed with the latest kdenetwork packages, versioned 3.3.2-4. From the changelog: Quoted kdenetwork (4:3.3.2-4) unstable; urgency=high . * Urgency high for sarge targetted fixes of bugs at severity important. . +++ Changes by Adeodato Simó: . * Kopete is now able again to log into MSN Messenger accounts, after the latest change in the Microsoft servers yesterday. I'm not sure if there's a way to add a font to Konsole's font listing, but the "<Default>" font in Konsole seems to be set in the 'Fonts' KControl module (kcmshell fonts) option for 'Fixed width' HTH
If you're looking for more consistency between KDE (Qt) and Gnome (GTK) themes, you might want to look at the GTK-Qt Theme engine. Rather than trying to find a GTK theme to match your KDE one, you can use this theme engine which uses whatever KDE theme you're using to draw GTK widgets as well. It only works for GTK2--and not GTK1--apps, though. Additionally, for easy switching of GTK themes without going through the Gnome control centers, check out the gtk-theme-switch program. Hope this helps. ...
