Re: KDE Fails to Start After Boot - Sometimes!

I'm still suffering with this problem and would really appreciate some guidance here. There is a 1 in 3 chance that KDE will run and, quite frankly, it is unnerving to never be sure that I will have a GUI! Charlie.

KDE Fails to Start After Boot - Sometimes!

I'm new to Linux and installed SUSE 8.2 a few weeks ago and use KDE as my desktop. The machine is a modified HP Pavilion AMD K2 350MHZ with 158MB ram, PCI sound & video, serial modem, USB printer. Dual boot with Win98. All has been fine until a few days ago when it happened that after a successful (?) boot KDE would not start - no wristwatch. I guess that the video server is not starting. this means I am stuck and have to pull the plug. Yesterday, I tried to boot three times without success so I...

Any Midi?

Quoted Original von Nicolas Goutte If you try to use MIDI with ALSA on KDE 3.1.x, there seems to have been a problem with it. It seems to have been corrected (however after KDE 3.1.4.) Thank you Nicolas! I will investigate doing an update as m ine version is 3.1.1 Charlie.

Enbedded Realplayer Problem

Thanks for ksysguard (CTRL-ESC) - I'll try that in a similar situation. I've only had SuSE installed for a week so there's lots to learn (and unlearn) after years of Windows Charlie.

Enbedded Realplayer Problem

Some sites use a pop up "player" behind which is actually Realplayer. This works fine in Konqueror until, for some reason, the stream stops and I decide to close the pop up. This causes a complete system freeze and I then do a CAD which takes me back to the login. I have two questions: 1. Is there a way that I can get out of a situation like this without doing a CAD? and 2. Is there some setting that needs to be made/changed that will stop the lockup? Thanks in advance! Charlie. PS: Just wonder ...

Any Midi?

Hello! I have just this week installed my first ever Linux and am pretty happy with SuSE - especially the winmodem that works faster than it ever did under Win98! Anyway, I have a problem playing midi files - I have CD, Real, wav (not tried MP3 yet) but no midi playback. I have correct settings in Volume Control. KMid opens when I click on a midi, the progress bar moves but no sound! I gather that there are problems in this area but would like to be able to play these files so any ideas would be...
