SuSE 9 absolutely rocks!

I just wanted to add my vote for SuSE. I've been through various releases of Red Hat and Mandrake before settling on SuSE and I've been a happy user since 8.1. Just my $.02

Novell, Ximian, and SuSE

Anyone know what will happen now that Novell owns SuSE? Since Ximian is part of the Novell fold, it seems natural they'd start placing an emphasis on Gnome support. Do you think it would be a good idea if all the SuSE users who favor KDE email them and sound off? I already have. Even though KDE may still be part of SuSE in future releases, I would like to see continued full support for it. I'd also like to continue seeing KDE as the default environment. I cringe at the thought of using Gnome for...

Log in under another WM

How about logging in under that butt-ugly Gnome or something else and uninstalling all the KDE rpm's and reinstalling them? That should fix it. The SuSE 9.0 thing is a good idea, but it's not shipping untill 10/24 and it'll take at least a week to get it after that.

Control Panel differences?

Glad you found it! Isn't the KDE Control Panel the same in all distros? I thought it was distro independent.

Hmmmm...

You've got me there... I think it would look nicer, too, but I think you'd have to hack a file somewhere or something to get rid of those. Maybe I'll look around and see what I can find and get back with you on it.

Get it all straightened out?

Did you get KDE straightened out like you want it? Was it just the options you had to select and the styles/icons/window decorations, or did you have to build from scratch, like you thought you might?

Hate to say it, but...

I believe you'd have to build from scratch... No, seriously, some of those options are in the KDE Control Center. Like the little gear thing on the side of the Kmenu. It's at Control Center->Desktop->Panels->Menus tab. Check the box that's labeled "Show Side Image" in the KMenu section of the tab. You just have to play with different window decorations, color schemes, and styles. You also have to go all the way through the Control Center to turn on all the nice things like translucent menus, men...

Fogot to add...

I forgot to add that I know it isn't a corruption anywhere because it was still there after I did some hosing to my system and reinstalled the entire distro to correct it, formatting the HDD in the process.

Konqueror crashes

Whenever I visit KDE-Look.org and open a screenshot of a particular file, the Javascript that allows the window to close when clicking on the image or the "close" link just turns the window blank. Then when you close the window, Konqueror bombs. I'm using SuSE 8.2 and KDE 3.1.2. I don't know if it has changed in the newer 3.1.3 because I only change with SuSE's YaST to ensure no problems are encountered, unlike the past when I updated to KDE 3.0 from 2.2 and had all sorts of problems.
