i586 or i686

I have successfully compiled KOffice 1.4.1 in i586 and i686 arch, but no success with athlon, which I use. If you are still interested in using 1.4.1 then let me know and we can arrange something. Edit: I forgot to mention that these were built for SuSE 9.2.

Konqueror Crash 3.4

I am using SuSE 9.2 with KDE 3.4 beta 2, and I am really enjoying it. However, sometimes when I am moving files in konqueror it will crash. Does anyone have a similar problem. This does not always occur; it is kind of random.

Build KDE with Athlon Arch

Since I am running an AMD Duron processor, and have found that other applications run better, including the kernel being compiled with k7 support, when compiled this way, I wanted to build KDE 3.3.2 with athlon arch. However, my packages are very large and when I --rebuild kdebase it gives me this error: Quoted ERROR: suse_update_desktop_file: unable to read + exit 1 error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.81138 (%install) RPM build errors: Unknown option ? in verify_permissions(:- Unknown ...

Upgrade to KDE 3.2 in SuSE 9.0

Hi mikester I am not sure if this will help you out, but I boot my system using runlevel 3. When logged in use: "startx gnome" to access gnome, however the version that I am using is SuSE 8.1. I am not familiar with SuSE 9.0. I hope this helps you out.

Upgrade KDE 3.1.4 => 3.2

I found that with SuSE 8.1 I had to FORCE the installation. This is not always the best idea with installations, but if you feel uncomfortable with such a plan perhaps you may want to upgrade to 3.1.5. There is a speed difference and security patches, however KDE 3.2 is much better. Just use a this command: rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force *.rpm Install the BASE files and go from there. Good luck.

KDE 3.2, KDE 3.2, where art thou complete KDE 3.2 ?

Well I took the plunge and applied the KDE 3.2. :roll: I basically had to FORCE, which I am really not fond of, the installation. Everything works aside from QtFprot, even after recompiling. Another interesting factor is, since the kdegraphics packages are not available yet my camera does not work with konqueror, but it does work with the newest digikam (Nice program). Other methods still allow access, so I am not terribly worried about it. I am very impressed with the speed of the window loadin...

KDE 3.1.95 (KDE 3.2 RC1)

There is some interesting info here regarding KDE 3.2 and SuSE. Does anybody know if I applied the latest RPM's, which is the full release, would they work or would they damage my current KDE 3.1.5 version? Because of the five packages that are FAILED; kdeaddons, kdebindings (partial), kdegraphics, kdenetworks, and kdemultimedia, I am wanting to know if the 3.1.5 packages would work properly in place of the ones that have FAILED. I would just try it, but I need my sytem running without to many e...

KDE 3.1.95 (KDE 3.2 RC1)

Can anyone using SuSE 8.1 tell me if KDE 3.1.95 is working properly? My system is running pretty good with 3.1.5, and I am reluctant to attempt the latest KDE. I have noticed, at the SuSE ftp, that some packages are not compiling, such as kdenetworks, kdegraphics, and others. In fact, all of the versions seem to have problems aside from 9.0. Does this comprimise the stability and perfomance of KDE?

Good News

SuSE has applied the libstdc++-3.2.2 today. Thank-you guys. Everything seems to work fine now. As of today, the SuSE website has not been updated, but the ftp has been as of 2004.01.22. Upgrading to KDE 3.1.5 is now possible without problems.

libstdc++

Well here we go again.... :shock: I downloaded the latest KDE 3.2 RC1 and it would seem that it is looking for the same elusive libstdc++-3.2.2 library. Having a bad feeling about the whole thing, I testing the KDE libs package and received this: kdelibs3-3.1.95-1.i586.rpm';echo RESULT=$? error: failed dependencies: arts >= 1.1.95 is needed by kdelibs3-3.1.95-1 libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2.2) is needed by kdelibs3-3.1.95-1 kdelibs3 = 3.1.4 is needed by kdelibs3-devel-3.1.4-35 Now, two of them are ...

libstdc++

I could not help but notice, after the fact, that you indicated that you had problems updating the GLIBC package. Does this package need to be upgraded in order to update the libstdc++ package? Right now on my SuSE 8.1 system I have libstdc++-3.2-44. I have yet to attempt to compile libstdc++-3.2.2, which seems to be required for KDE 3.1.5.

libstdc++

Quoted Unfortunatelly not on my knowledge, last time that I upgraded my GLIBC I made a real big mess of it, and I had to do a full system restore because if it! Anyway if you do find a solution let us know how you did it! Thanks for the reply tuxnet. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that encountered this issue. I have emailed the SuSE company to see what they have to say about the matter, but I have not received a reply as of yet. I really do not expect to get one either because ...

libstdc++

After updating to KDE-3.1.5 I found that some of the programs do not work, however, prior to the upgrade they did. Two, for example, are kcalc and k3b. When I run both I receive this error: kcalc: /usr/lib/./libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2.2' not found (required by /opt/kde3/lib/kcalc.so) I have the latest libstdc++ for my SuSE 8.1distro, but this does not seem to do the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions?

KDE 3.2 Beta 2

Has anyone installed the latest KDE 3.2 Beta2 for 8.1? (build.3.1.94_2003121013) I have noticed that the last few packages from adrian do not contain the kdenetworks, kdebindings, and kdeaddons. Does anybody know why they will not work? Will the KDE 3.1.4 packages work with the newest Beta?

KGPG CVS Compile

Thank-you for the reply... I did try the beta of KDE 3.2, but returned to 3.1.4 due to the bugs. I did enjoy the new features of KGPG and wanted to use them in the current KDE, but I am going to have to wait... Thanks again..

KGPG CVS Compile

While trying to compile the CVS KGPG I receive this error: checking for kconfig_compiler... not found configure: error: The important program kconfig_compiler was not found! Please check whether you installed KDE correctly. What does this mean? Does it referr to KConfigure? If it does I do have it installed on my system. I am currently using KDE 3.1.4 with SuSE 8.1.

KDE-CVS-BUILD

Thanks for the reply Nicolas... I returned my system to 3.1.4. I did enjoy the new KDE 3.2 Beta in several ways, but it seemed all I was doing was trying to correct applications issues. However, I am really looking forward to when 3.2 is released. I think that it will be on December 8, or something like that. If the betas from the SuSE site have less bugs I will return to the 3.2 before the release date. It is great to see people grinding at the wheel...
