[KOPETE] Newbie - How to launch it ?

Open a console and type "kopete" without the quotes. If it make'd and install'd correctly, that should run it.

[Kopete] Could Something Like Phonegaim be Added?

This sounds VERY interesting... http://phonegaim.com I greatly prefer Kopete over Gaim. Could a voice module be added to Kopete, using some of Phonegaim's (open) code? I'm assuming the SIP/VoIP parts should be toolkit agnostic.

Fixed!

Alright, I guess I should have looked around a little more before I posted. I deleted my ~/.kde/share/applnk/konqueror.desktop file, and it's all good now. But I still don't know what happened.... :?

Can't launch Konqueror from kpanel button

Hmmmm. I found out that the panel button is actually running the command "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing". I ran that from a konsole, and it says "kfmclient: ERROR: Couldn't start konqueror from konqueror.desktop: KDEInit could not launch 'kioexec' ". What happened?

Can't launch Konqueror from kpanel button

Hi, I'm using KDE 3.2.0 on Slackware 9.1. Everything's been working perfectly until today, when I was extracting a tarball using konqueror. I tried to open another konqueror window while it was extracting, and it didn't work. Now, I've completely rebooted my computer, and for some reason it refuses to launch konqueror when I click on my shortcut button in the panel (which I deleted and re-created). It just shows the bouncy icon next to the mouse, and then disappears. It also refuses to launch "H...

Kmail + Disconnected IMAP Help

Hi, I'm using kmail 1.6 with disconnected IMAP and a slow dialup connection. I have quite a large IMAP inbox and I switch email clients on various computer often. Is there a way to configure kmail to only cache the messages I've viewed, or to only download and cache messages <100 KB? It just takes too long to download and view my more recent messages after setting up kmail fresh. Thanks for the help!!

kmail and IMAP on dialup

Great idea! Is there any easy way to synchronize the imap folder and the local folder? Also how do I make the filter run every time I connect to my imap server? Thanks for the help!

kmail and IMAP on dialup

Hi, I use kmail 1.5.4 with an IMAP account. I have slow dialup, and I'm not connected very often. Is there a way to have kmail automatically cache all headers AND message bodies on my hardrive, so I can view them offline? Right now, even if I've viewed a message, as soon as I disconnect, it's no longer available. Thanks for the help!!

Kaffe plugin for Konqueror?

Hi, I was wondering if there's a way to make Kaffe 1.1.1 work in Konqueror 3.1.4? I'm using Mandrake 9.2, and Kaffe is included. I don't really want to download any of the big name JRE's over my slow internet connection. Thanks!

Can't get kphone 3.12 to compile

Hmmm, still no luck. libXext does exist in /usr/X11R6/lib. I ran ldconfig on /usr. Here's a few lines before the failure: checking for X... libraries /usr/X11R6/lib, headers /usr/X11R6/include checking for IceConnectionNumber in -lICE... no checking for libXext... no configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find them either. Any ideas? I also tried kphone 3.11 on both Mandrake and Redhat, with the same ...

Can't get kphone 3.12 to compile

Hi, I can't get past ./configure in compiling kphone. It says it can't find a working libXext, so it won't proceed. I have a fully functional install of xfree86 on Redhat 9 and Mandrake 9.0. Any ideas? Thanks!

How to print multiple files from kprinter

Well, for whatever reason, it's working for me today. There IS some sort of bug the first couple of times I tried it, but it seems to work fine now.

How to print multiple files from kprinter

Hi, I am trying to print many JPEGs from a single folder. I tried dragging them onto the proper frame in kprinter, and I tried opening them from the little "open" folder icon. No luck. They don't appear in the queue, nothing happens. Does this only work with certain file types, or is kprinter broken, or am I confused? I'm using the default KDE 3.x in RH9.0 and MDK9.0; neither one works. I AM able to goto file->print... and print individual photos from kview, etc. Thanks!

Animated GIF's as wallpaper

Point well taken. But Linux does manage memory better than Windows, so it might not make too much of a performance hit. Maybe a Karamba theme could do the trick with less work. I'll try the feedback section. Thanks!

Animated GIF's as wallpaper

Windows 2000 can do it. Can KDE 3.1.x? Mine just shows a single frame of the GIF, w/o animating it.

Graphics lib caching?

If it makes a BIG difference, then maybe I'll give it a shot. 1) How do I do it, or 2)Where's a good tutorial? BTW, I have a dirt slow Internet connection, so I can't download the sources- just what's on the 3 RH Cd's. Appreciate the help.

Graphics lib caching?

Sorry, I should have clarified this: I don't usually use Gnome (the window manager itself), just some GTK applications. I guess ultimately, I'd like my KDE applications to load faster on the second, and preferably the first launch, and it seems like I just need to adjust a caching setting somewhere. Ideas? Thx.

Graphics lib caching?

Ok, that makes sense. Is there a way to configure the caching that takes place, so that Qt apps will perform better on subsequent launches? THX!

Graphics lib caching?

I'm using RH9 w/ an unmodified KDE 3.1. When I use GTK apps, they take forever to load the first time, but are noticeably faster the second time. Qt apps, however, take a very long time to launch, and they don't do any better the second time around. I'm willing to sacrifice some of my memory (128 MB, yes, more would be better but...) for caching the graphics, etc. Is there a way to do this? Any other performance tweaks that you like to use? I do have DMA enabled. Thanks!

KDM in Redhat 9?

Thank you! Adding the line to /etc/sysconfig/desktop is all that's needed.
