Ok, best way to create a Linux partition is to use a software like Partition Magic...nowadays it might even by simpler to just buy a new hard disk  If you are famlilar with RH then use it, Mandrake and Suse are also great. As with RH 9 you don't have to worry about dual boot, GRUB handles that automatically for you, i.e. finds the windows partition.
So you are running Linux, if you are successfully running KDE on Unix please let me know . If you use LILO as your bootloader I guess you could check this out: http://www.hackinglinuxexposed.com/articles/20020702.html
Why do you say that "Red Hat simply doesn't" work well with KDE?? Does KDE work better with any distros?? I'm going to try Gentoo next
It doesn't surprise me that you haven't found any documentation about this, since I believe this cannot be done at all!! If you, as a regular user, can manipulate the root password it is of course a huge security risk, as you gain access to the whole system. So if you do not know the root password, I'm afraid there is no way to change it (that I know of...)
You can also try SuperKaramba, it has some themes that can actually replace Kicker!
How did you try to change the icon? If you right-click and select properties...then click on the icon you should be able to change it!!
There is a great software for Linux called Gimp, try that. Photoshop should run with Wine!!
Hi, Although I don't understand what happened to you I think the best solution is to log in as root (KDE), delete the user and create another one. If you just installed Linux you shouldn't have much user information for this user...
Quoted Original von Kenneth Ok, thanks. And how do you get SuerKaramba to automatically start on login to KDE. Do i need to edit any cofig files? I haven't done this myself, but try this: make a bash script and put it in your ~/.kde/Autostart directory. (cd to the directory containing your karamba themes...) [code:1] #!/bin/bash cd /home/Kenneth/karambathemes/ superkaramba yourtheme.theme [/code:1]
You propably just need to update to the latest version of SuperKaramba. Many of the themes that appear on kde-look.org need the latest version. If you start superkarmba in console with a theme as a parametere you can see what's going on. If you get a lot of "not found" bla bla its because the theme is trying to call a function in SuperKaramba that isn't avilible in your version.
Karamba and Superkaramba are not 2 competing Karambas. Superkaramba is an extension, a modification, of Karamba and is capable of more interactivity in themes by using Python. This means that you only need Superkaramba, which does not replace kicker in any way. It's just a program that you "run normally" and takes a theme as an argument. As far as I now there has been discussion about making Karamba become official part of KDE but I don't know if a decision has been made yet. So give Superkaramb...
You can specify it in /etc/fstab file. Propably best for you to look this up on google but it could be something similar to (I have never done this myself  ) WindowsMachine mountpoint auto auto, user 0 0 First is the path on windows machine, as you use it when mounting regularly, then there is the mount point. auto says what kind of filesystem it is, you can specify it if you want to. The next auto says to mount this when booting, user means that other than root can mount this. I'm not 100...
Just out of curiosity, for what distro did you download the packages? Are there any KDE 3.1 packages for Red Hat 7.1 availible?? I realize this may not be a solution for you but I strongly suggest you upgrade to Red Hat 8 or Red Hat 9..
Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading my computer. What I have in mind is:
MSI K7N2-L NForce2 motherboard GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR graphic card[/list:u] and of course a lot of other stuff!! I'm just wondering how compatible this motherboard and graphic card are with Linux (I use Red Hat 9). Any horror stories about this graphic card??
Updated to SuperKaramba 0.25 Works fine now
Quoted Original von erugger66 Did you install PyXMMS? Yes, I have PyXMMS installed....and as far as I know it works??
Hi, Maybe this question doesn't belong here, but anyways... I'm running Red Hat 9 and just installed SuperKaramba, downloaded a theme called Slickbar. When I try to run it I get the following error: File "slickbar.py", line 13, in ? import SlickBar File "SlickBar/__init__.py", line 15, in ? from SlickBar.Panels.XMMSPanel import * File "SlickBar/Panels/XMMSPanel.py", line 9, in ? import time ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.2/lib-dynload/timemodule.so: undefined symbol: PyInt_FromLong --------------...
Hi, I just installed Red Hat 9, using Konqueror 3.1-12. There is a small problem when downloading zipped files (e.g. tar.gz).....Instaed of Konqueror opening the zipped file and letting you extract its contents easily (worked in RH it only shows the "temp" file. Anyone know how to fix this??
Quoted Original von Shoikan Ehrmmm.. Blonde moment here: did you fix it now, or did it work already? Well, blonde moments here too....I just needed to upgrade to karamba version 0.17...now everything works fine!!!
