Changing hostname

You should be able to change the hostname by editing /etc/hosts. Does Mandrake use some sort of a utility program to set this? Maybe that is why your changes are over written.

OpenOffice.org 1.0 Program Error

I hope this is helpful. I pulled it of www.openoffice.org Linux Set Up -Martijn Dekkers Last updated 2002 June 05 Installing OpenOffice.org on Linux is very easy! How do I setup Kmail to use postfix to send mails?

All you should have to do is go to Settings, Configure Kmail, and then select Network. Choose Add and then select Sendmail (Postfix uses /usr/sbin/sendmail) and you should be able to keep the defaults. This is all I had to do on my system here at work and it seems to work fine.

Browser Choice?

I use Firebird on my NT machine at work, it's lean and works well. On my Linux machine at home I use Konqueror almost exclusively. Konqueror was much improved with the 3.1.x release. Prior to then I had issues with some web sites, my bank for instance. I believe almost any browser is superior to IE, and I really get ticked off (toned down) when I get messages telling me to upgrade my browser. Gentoo on CD

Tuxnet, One nice feature of Gentoo is that it does not have releases that "drop dead" as with other distributions. Check out the following quote from the web site: Quoted Portage will keep your Gentoo Linux system as "up-to-date" as you desire. And because of this, experienced Gentoo users don't pay too much attention to "new versions" of Gentoo Linux -- after all, the latest and greatest version of Gentoo Linux is always available by typing an emerge sync command. There's no need to wait severa...
