Quanta wishlist

Wouldn't it be great if an HTML page layout program were developed for KDE? We have Quanta Plus, which is wonderful, but I dislike writing HTML because my abilities in creating something pleasing to the eye are limited at the code level. Now with KHTML becoming more robust, it would seem reasonable that a Mozilla composer-like layout feature could be added to Quanta. Where am I going wrong here and why doesn't something like this exist for KDE?

Stupid thing doesn't work

Thanks, I tried that but the settings change never applied and so nothing took effect. I hope they fix that bug by the final, probably not knowing them since they are in debt up to their eyeballs and time to market is more important than producing something that works. You are especially right about GDM looking hot. I would just be happy to get KDM back. I don't like MdkDM at all. Also, have you noted the little bug with the text below the icons on the desktop? There is a significant gap between...

I need my KDM back

I am trying Mandrake 9.1 RC 2 and they have abolished KDM in favor of some ugly Mandrake home grown login screen. Does anyone know how to configure X to use KDM? I figured that this was a look issue, so don't flame me for posting it here. Thanks.

Xcursor

Yes, you can change it to a white cursor in the KDE Control Center, but it sometimes doesn't work and could mess up X if you're not careful. However, XFree86 v4.3 supports a new feature that allows you to theme your cursors. It supports shadows, translucency, etc. Check KDE-Look.org for more of these themes when 4.3 is released (it is tagged for the 27th of Feb). In the meantime, there is a really nice theme in development here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=4805

Jabber rules!

I'm surprised that you open source/standard people aren't more into Jabber. I setup a Jabber server the other day. I'm trying to get all of my friends on Jabber because some day these proprietary systems are going to pull a fast one on us all and it will cost $$, something I'm not willing to pay. I really like the decentralizedness (is that a word?) that Jabber provides, and it's XML. Kopete 0.6 works great with it too. Kudos to the Kopete team and it's already becoming a useable app!

.DOC format in KWord?

Why can't KWord write .doc? That's what's preventing KWord from becoming mainstream at this point. It can read .doc, but can only write to several useless formats. I really like the idea of the XML-based format, but it's a little heavy on the filesize. Does anyone know if KOffice 1.3 will write .doc? I am a KDE advocate, but Abiword will look really slick when they finish the GTK2 port. Check this out: http://www.gnome.org/~aldug/gnome2/screenshots/abiword2.png KWord should look this smooth.

KWin

I like KWin, although I'm thinking of trying some Sawfish themes in the future. I like the Bluecurve port on art.gnome.org, although I am not an advocate of Bluecurve in general. I'm a Mandrake user.
