KDE4 - the great disappointment

I made my comments about KDE4 some time ago. Since then the discussion has degenerated into an exchange of insults which doesn't help anyone. I keep my computers up to date because of the vast amount of work that goes on behind the scenes keeping Linux a viable and modern operating system and I'd like to thank the developers for their efforts. I wish I knew the difference between Alpha, Beta and RC releases. I downloaded KDE4 thinking it was a finished product but it's obviously a work in hand. I'm trying it now on an old machine I use for experiments and it definitely seems faster but I can't use it for routine work. I've found Konqueror and the split view feature and SSH works but still can't find how to get a detailed list views. I still can't edit the Task Bar. I started using PCs using Windows 95 and I still prefer it's clean simple layout. When I started with KDE in Fedora Core before switching to Kubuntu I kept my Desktop in the 9x style. I tried installing KDE4 and hated it so much that I've registered with a forum for the first time to complain about it. Whatever improvements there are in 'under the bonnet' the Desktop itself is far too gimmicky and I could not find any way to customise it. My desktop is usually covered by applications so what but...
