Thanks Kevl yeah I installed from the live cd. Will try your suggestion. Again many thanks for the info.

I didn't get either synaptic nor adept on install. I tried installing them manually via command line and it showed a successful install but I can't find them in a file search. I also tried Kpackage manager and it says I need smart channels installed. I am using KDE 4.0. Any help much appreciated.
