No warning message on Shutdown

I recently install Fedora 7 and am using the KDE desktop. Have cron set to shutdown the system. However when the command "shutdown -h +5 " is sent no pop up window warning message is sent. The sytem does shutdown however. Also IF I log in as root the same command works fine. Waring messages are sent in pop up box. Appreciate an help in solving this problem. regards
