There are other reasons not to use Windows than the copyright laws, in my opinion. That's why I've always found it strange that people in Iran, that have had easy access to both Linux and Windows for ten years, still seem to be happy with Windows. I will definitely check out the sites you posted. I can read Farsi good enough, but writing is harder for me. Thanks.
nycjeff, if the X server crashed, you might be able to find some info on it in /var/log/Xorg.log or alternatively Xorg.0.log. Could be worth a look if you're curious. jimmyfg, glad you enjoyed the shortcuts. They should work in any X environment, Gnome, *box, etc. You can also easily add more keyboard shortcuts in KControl > Regional & Accessability > Keyboard Shortcuts
I agree. And with archives of TV series and stuff like that, you often just get the title of the series as thumbnail for every episode. It would be more helpful to get a shot from somewhere in the middle of the file. Perhaps it is possible to write some kind of smart thumbnailing program that prefers screens with color or text over blank screens? Btw, cool to see someone from Iran here. I've always had trouble finding Linux people in Iran.
I didn't use animation and fading for menus before, but I do now. I don't experience any flickering or anything. Anyway, glad to be of help.
There's also kmplayer. http://kmplayer.kde.org/ I prefer using mplayer from the command line though.
Strange. Try asking in #kde. (Open up Konversation.)
Go to KControl (or System Settings or whatever your distribution calls it), choose Style, click the Effects tab and disable the effects that annoy you.
Ctrl+Alt+Delete will log you out, and Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will exit the X server. Both will bring you back to kdm, where you can log back in. The logout could also be due to a crash or something, although it doesn't happen very often. I think it's very unlikely that your computer was hacked.
Quoted I don't do any of those. I turn on the Computer, let the boot up start in the usual way, and log on with my user name and password. What I need to know is how to change the system from Gnome back to KDE. Like I said, I am a newbie!! confused If you're a Kubuntu user, the "usual" way would be that kdm starts and you use kdm to log in to your desktop. When you install Gnome, gdm should come too, but the installer should ASK the user to switch or stay with the current display manager. In an...
Since Evolution is a GTK application I'm not sure if the KDE-wide settings apply. But you could try KControl. Either hit Alt+F2 and type kcontrol, or go to the K menu > Control Center ("System Settings" in Kubuntu) > KDE Components > Component Chooser ("Default Components" in Kubuntu) Choose Web Browser and then "open http URLs in apps based on the contents of URL". That should do it for KDE apps. If it doesn't apply to Evolution, you need to ask in the Evolution forums or some other GTK/GNOME r...
Hello, I've enabled font antialiasing in kcontrol. As a normal user, the fonts don't look very smooth, but if I start an application as root it looks gorgeous. I'm using the same settings for root and normal accounts. Please take a look at the picture that I attatched. As you can see fonts look quite messy as a normal user. This applies to all the fonts that I've tried (Arial, Bitstream, Sans, Calibri among others). I've tried all kinds of different settings, but currently I'm using Calibri 8, F...
