Uhm this is something Mozilla specific. I dont't use mozilla so I can't help you with that.
You dont need root access to compile Qt.
Just create a new KMenu entry and let it execute /usr/lib/mozilla1.7.7/mozilla

HI, in my opinion this is only possible with DCOP - a KDE specific feature.

And if you have started a KDE MP3 player like noatun you can use DCOP (http://wiki.qtforum.org/wakka.php?wakka=dcop&v=1cn5) to communicate with the mp3 player.
