Your best bet is to constantly download the newest versions of Wine, since it is rapidly developing. If you want to buy a very good version of Wine, WineX (www.transgaming.com) is a version of Wine aimed at gaming. I use CrossoverOffice (www.codeweavers.com) which is a version of Wine geared towards apps but has fantastic game support as well. If possible ALWAYS play the native Linux version of games. Most newer games that are multiplayer-capable are being developed for Mac and Linux as well as ...
Yyyyeah ~ I had this problem. You're going to have to build Kopete from source (grab the KDENetwork source package off of KDE's website, since the Kopete website doesn't have .8final posted yet). Go into the directory kopete/protocols/irc/libkirc and open up kirc.cpp. Line number 363 will have a value in it (probably 15000). Change the 15 to a 60. This is the setting for a timeout, which is by default set at 15 seconds. You want it set to 60. Hope that helps.
100+ is considered insane ~ I had to reduce mine from 181 diown to 53. As far as I know, there isn't. Your best bet is just to try ICQ, and register a new name and try that.
Kopete 0.8rc1 has a tendency to flip out if your AIM screenname has an insanely large buddy list...figured I'd give you some forewarning... As far as not connecting ~ The fact that your connecting with an official AOL screenname could very well be the problem. Are you still on AOL? If not, cancel the account and re-register that name as an Oscar name instead. Otherwise, try a new name from the AIM website. Another possible remedy to pinpoint the situation is to try logging onto ICQ. ICQ and AIM ...
Quoted If 'which konqueror' returns /opt/kde/bin/konqueror than your prefix is --prefix=/opt/kde ^ What he said.
Bah ~ I've given up on unstable versions of .8 fo now. I'm back to .7.5 and it's all good :o)
Kopete .8rc1 is so ridiculously buggy, I would just stay away from it until either the final release or .8.1 comes out. Use .7.5. KDE 3.2 will be released next week, and the final version of .8 will come with it. It's your best bet.
Install with the prefix /opt or try /opt/kde3. Try both of those.
Quoted that's one problem KDE has to solve, IMHO. So many options .... As we say in Holland: because of all the trees you dont see the forrest anymore. Gnome has to less options to choose from but KDE has to many. Better safe than sorry. I'm a KDE freak, but when I installed Suse 9 on my brothers computer I set him up with Gnome (mainly because Gnome is a tad bit more stable and since KDE 3.2 final is on it's way I didn't want to make things confusing). But I can honestly say that trying to pul...
Yeah ~ No go on that. It worked before with that setting only at 1mb, and I'd get previews for 600mb movie files.
I'm on .8rc1 ~ I also have trouble staying connected to Oscar on it. I have no problems with MSN or ICQ though.
I'm an IRC newb. HEre's the output in the server window when I try to connect: (3:39:17 am) # irc.freenode.net has changed their status to Online. (3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Looking up your hostname... (3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Checking ident (3:39:17 am) # NOTICE : *** Couldn't look up your hostname (3:39:32 am) # Twiggy794 has changed their status to Offline. (3:39:32 am) # irc.freenode.net has changed their status to Offline. So what'm I doing wrong to connect? Any help is awesome, thanks!
No luck there ~ Hmph. It's a subtle yet annoying problem.
I actually got it all working. I completely removed KDE and reinstalled 3.2rc1 from scratch and it works fine now. I had a few warnings when I installed originally, so I'm assuming one of them caused it.
I was having tons of issues on 3.2rc1 so I completely removed KDE, QT, and Arts and reinstalled 3.2 from scratch. Fixed my problems, but I Konqueror no longer shows thumbnail previews of movie files. Is there a way to get this to work? I checked the Previews panel and there's nothing in there for videos. I'm using Konqueror 3.2.
Here's the console output: kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /home/scott/.kde/share/icons/Gorilla/ group not valid. libkopete: WARNING: [KopetePlugin* KopetePluginManager::loadPluginInternal(const QString&)] Unable to find a plugin named 'kopete_chatwindow'! libkopete: WARNING: [KopetePlugin* KopetePluginManager::loadPluginInternal(const QString&)] Unable to find a plugin named 'kopete_connectionstatus'! libkopete: WARNING: [KopetePlugin* KopetePluginManager::loadPluginInternal(cons...
I reinstalled KDE 3.2rc1, but when I loaded up Kopete it had no protocols in it for me to connect to. Am I missing something vital here?
Hum ~ It looks like I still have the same problem only with Oscar. It connects and disconnects immediately after.
It looks like Kopete's going downhill with this new .8 release... How did you fix the problem iapetus?
Any known fixes for this problem? Since no .8 release has ever been able to compile for me, I'm assuming that the RPM's just install without mentioning certain errors.
