Vacations and shoes

Are you going to let the vacation and shoe salespeople dominate the forum? I feel guilty complaining, because I am able to do so little to support the forum yet, due to my lack of experience, however, it is one of few places for me to solve problems while using the KDE desktop. Still, now that the above salespeople have taken over the forum, those who are willing to help us newbies, are less willing to wade through the ads to find those in need. I have not gotten successful help in at least a mo...

Can't run adept; error message: another process using...apt-get

I had the same problem and received this instruction. It worked for me. ps -ewf| grep adept|grep -v grep|awk '{print $2}' This will list all process being used by adept, one per line. Next you want a sure way to destroy these processes: sudo kill -9 <process> Where <process> is each process number separated by a space. for example if you got two lines like these: 7513 12158 Your command will look like this: sudo kill -9 7513 12158 Tpe your password when asked for it here. Hope this helps.

RE: Useless

This also might be useless, but if you have Adept Manager, try updating your machine, sometimes that will straighten out a problem. I'm just new at this, but it worked for me, one time. Hope it helps, it can't hurt.

RE: what I'd like to see

Old Salt, That sounds Navy to me. I lived in San Diego for almost 40 years. I agree with much you have said, however, I will have to think about it a while. I am new with Linux; I don't want to burden with things that everyone would have to say ' any idiot would say that'. I am not 'any idiot', I am a unique idiot that would like to make useful suggestions. Anyway, if the post is still up when I get both my electrons spinning together and making contact every once in a while, so I can actually h...

RE: Maintenance --> Software-Update

I have never used the forum before. I am new to Kubuntu Linux. I am older and with fading memory. I will try to be as short and accurate as I am able. Feisty 7.04 - Adept Manager. There is a process running in the background that keeps me from being able to add and remove anything. I have tried: ps -ewf| grep adept|grep -v grep|awk '{print $2}' to list the processes using Adept. then, sudo kill -9 <+the numbers for the processes> However after removing the offending processes, a new process numb...
