Emilia Pinball - it's addictive!
Probably not what you are looking for., but if you use GDM instead of KDM to login, you get a small logout window in KDE with no Konqi and only 1 choice, i.e. Logout, no Shutdown or Reboot. I then select select Shutdown from the GDM menu. I like KDE, but I find GDM is nice as a login manager. It's the default for Fedora, no matter the desktop you use. Paul
Yes....Fedora Core 2 comes with KDE 3.2.2. Paul
Konqueror has only displayed one entry in the location bar history for a while now. This started in KDE 3.1, I think, in both Fedora and Mandrake. Is there any way to change the number of entries displayed? One isn't really enough. Thanks....Paul
I will change when Fedora Core 2 comes out. I find upgrading desktops between distro releases is a dicey affair. Things just don't 'feel' right or work quite right. I tried the Fedora Core 1 KDE 3.2 RPMS, but the fonts in Konqueror for many websites were too big. Changing the font size in the Settings option would have no effect. The only thing I could do was hit CTL + minus three times. That's a pain to have to do everytime. I realize it's a Fedora issue, not KDE. When making a release, distros...
Thanks....that confirms my suspicions that it's a Fedora problem. My guess is that these RPMs were compiled quickly and not much thought given as to how they integrate with the existing font system in Fedora. My guess/hope is that things will be OK when Fedora Core 2 comes out. Regards....Paul
Hi, I use Fedora Core 1. I downloaded and installed the KDE 3.2 packages for Fedora. everything works great except that a lot of web pages have huge fonts in Konqueror. No matter what font setting I use, the size is unchanged on these web sites. One such site is www.tsn.ca. Is this most likely a Fedora issue? I can't see this being done on purpose by KDE. Thanks....Paul
I found that this will only specify the page Konqueror goes to when you load it. To set the page you go to when you press the house, you need to click Settings--->Configure Konqueror. Then make sure you have the first 'Behavior' icon highlighted, the one with the file cabinet. Enter your desired homepage in the Home URL box. Paul
Hi, Just wondering what people use for CD ripping? I'm currently using K3B. Are there any other KDE rippers out there? Thanks....Paul
I just wanted to add that I wish Red Hat didn't monkey with the underlying stuff in KDE. However, I do like the optics of the Bluecurve interface. To me, it's simple, but elegant. I hope this doesn't make me a bad guy. Cheers!
Hi, I have a pet peeve I need to get off my chest. Why do so many forums, this one included, label me as a beginner or newbie? I have been using Linux for 4 years and hardly call myself a newbie. Thanks.....Paul
Hi, Has anyone gotten Konqueror to work with Netscape WebMail at http://webmail.netscape.com? It worked in Konqueror 3.0, but not 3.1. It looks like it keeps trying, the URLs keep changing and going in circles, but it never gets in. The URLs are various ones that the login process uses. I use Red Hat 9, but I know it's not a problem with Red Hat's KDE, as I get the same result in Mandrake 9.1. Thanks....Paul
I use Red Hat. I like that it's easily obtainable and there's lot's of third party apps for it. I've used Mandrake and like it as well, but I don't want to get too attached in case they go belly up. SuSE is nice, but it seems hard to find apps (RPMs) for it. Also, you don't see new versions on the store shelves here in Canada until about 3 months after the release date. I've also tried Debian. Maybe I'm stupid or something, but I just couldn't get the X server to work. Overall, the installation ...
If you right click on the "K" button on the KDE panel, an option called menu editor should appear. Select that and you should be able to edit your menus.
I won't be of much help, but I've found that Netscape webmail has been problematic with Konqueror off and on since day one. I've generally given up on Netscape webmail because of it. I've found that Yahoo! Mail has worked with Konqueror reasonably well since the beginning. -Paul
