KDED Media Manager doesn't start

I had a similar problem on Kubuntu (KDE 3.4.1) when I upgraded to dbus0.5 and the latest hal5.4. The only way that I could fix it was to use 'locate' to find all of the references to hal and dbus and delete the directories. Forcing a reinstall of the older version didn't work for me, either. Specifically, I deleted these directories: /usr/share/hal /etc/hal /etc/dbus-1 Good luck.
