Ah, so that's where those logs are. kdm.log has some non-fatal errors logged, but these appear with no differences when both root (which works) and normal user (which doesn't) try to get on. No extra errors are logged when it resets after trying to get in as a normal user. So that's not incredibly helpful. I'll probably just reinstall. Don't know if this is already covered somewhere; my apologies if it is. When using KDM to login to KDE 3.1.4, it works only if I'm root. For normal users it blanks the screen, restarts X, and brings up the login box again. No error messages. Any ideas? Is it just my config (some permission not set right?) or should I report this to the bugs guys?
