works in Failsafe boot as Telinit 3 No idea why it will not work as normal start up HELP????

I am a new linux user. I installed Mandrake 10 everything was working fine. I was looking at the different desktop programs and some how i ended up with just a prompt. How do i get KDE to start up and use it as a GUI.
