Quanta Plus adds extra lines when opening files

Anyone know why Quanta Plus is adding an extra line between lines each time I open it? For example, the first time I write my code looks like this: <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> Then if I open it up again, it looks like: <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>blahblahblah</morecodehere> <somecode her>b...

Font issue solved

After 8 hours of frantic sleuthing, I discovered that X was looking at xorg.conf for the location of the fonts, and lo and behold, when I looked there, the only font listed was the new faulty one. So I renamed the .dir and .scale files, moved the font to a different location (essentially emptied that directory), restarted xfs, and it worked. Whew.

Font install gone horribly wrong -- need to restore defaults

I am totally up the creek on this one, not sure why, but I know what I did: I installed a font (unzipped from .lzh format) by using the KDE Control Panel's "Font Installer" in both the user and administrator mode. I selected the font, clicked "okay," and thought all would be fine. Unfortunately, whether due to a problem with the font or a problem with the KDE font installer, it has borked all attempts to start X. I'm stuck in a terminal, with a "failed to load default font: fixed" error. I don't...

Scim and Kmail problems?

I have always used Kmail with Scim-anthy to enter Japanese into emails. I'm using FC8 (Qt: 3.3.8, KDE: 3.5.8-19.fc8 Fedora, KMail: 1.9.6, Scim 1.4.7) and have noticed that after hitting the <Enter> or <Backspace> keys everything goes haywire. It seems to be repeating characters. I have to close Scim with <Ctrl-Space> and restart it again for things to be normal. This problem appears in Konqueror and Kmail, but not in other apps like Skype or Firefox, so I am suspecting a problem with KDE. Anyone...

What Kmail files are needed for Importing?

I hope someone out there can give me a short walkthrough of what's needed to properly import Kmail and Kontact info from one system to another. On the old system I am running: Qt: 3.3.7 KDE: 3.5.6-4.fc5 KMail: 1.9.6 And I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 530 and have FC8 on it. The new details are: Qt: 3.3.8 KDE: 3.5.8-7.fc8 Fedora KMail: 1.9.6 (enterprise 0.20071204.744707) I have tried a few things which haven't worked, primarily (I think) because I don't know which folder I need to point the I...

Additional info

Okay, at this point I've tried just about everything. The "Import" tool doesn't work -- or perhaps I'm pointing it to the wrong Kmail folder. I've tried copying the .kde/share/apps/kmail file and using that. I've tried suggestions from another forum, but they didn't work either. Surely someone out there uses Kmail, no? Am I a dying breed? I'm hoping to migrate all my info so that Kontact will work without my having to create new Identities again, recreate the folders, and manually insert the mai...

Migrate Kontact from FC5 to FC8?

I have a new computer with FC8 on it, installed from the KDE Live CD. I want to know the best way to migrate my Kontact data (Kmail folders, filters, addresses, emails, and calendars) from the FC5 system to the new FC8 one. I'm hoping there's a way to import everything in a simple manner...I can connect the two systems with ssh or scp. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried that if I just copy the .kde/share/apps/Kmail files it will get corrupted or won't work right. A...

User's keyboard continually frozen

I need to somehow reset whatever startup script happens to initialize the peripherals as a User logs in...all my other users are fine, but for one user, the keyboard doesn't work. If I log in as that user in Gnome, all is fine. Just when I choose a KDE session. The mouse works fine...I just can't type anything. If numlock is on, it stays on throughout the session until I logout. I think the simplest solution will just be to reset to the defaults whatever initializing gets done. I am using FC5, r...

Kopete and MSN can't connect

I am using my msn passport account with (login@hotmail.com) and have one of two recurring problems: 1. It says that the password is wrong when it clearly isn't. I have checked caps, I have typed it several times, I have logged in using it just fine...but it says the password is wrong. 2. If I change the defaults from default (messenger.hotmail.com) to "messenger.msn.com" the little butterfly icon tries for about 5 minutes, then gives me an "operation not permitted " which is a little too vague f...

Printing options for KOrganizer?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm positive that there were some options for printing a week or month in different formats. Ideally, I'd like to print a week or month in a format that will be compatible with a Day Runner organizer...allowing me to cut a US Letter-sized page in half and have two 8.5x5.5 inch pages which can be hole-punched and added to this 3-ring binder. I was playing around with this about 6 months ago and thought there were some options to get output in different organi...
