As a newbie to KDE4 I'd like to kick off a thread that collects how one can make changes to KDE4's appearance and behaviour on the command line - ranging from kdm-kde4 and its appearance to changing the desktop itself. For KDE3, documentation was hard to come by and it took me absolute ages to gather it all... So, if any of you have a working KDE4 install and have found one config file or another, then please share your experiences. Many thanks in advance!
Hi there, I've chopped and changed my menu a lot! At a recent LUG meeting somebody saw it and would like a copy. Problem is how? Anybody out there know? Cheers
ah, ok. Perhpas the "focus stealing" setting in kcontrol will help you?
There is plenty of advice in the kubuntu forum. Also, for more customisation options you might want to lookhere
Sorry for the long delay in replying and thanks for posting the screenshot. Now I know what you are talking about. However, I am not aware of any such settings - I take it you want to make the lines a little smaller so they fit into one column. My dirty workaround in this case: create some meta-folders for stuff you don't need so often, individual links that can be grouped together, etc. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
I happen to know that the theme manager in Kubuntu Gutsy might as well not be there 'cos it all is capable of is ruining your kdmrc file. You on Gutsy? If so, uninstall the theme manager.
katapult is both a launcher and a calculator in one plus some more!!! forget some weird company writing yet another programme for windblows
yeah kevl, if you swoon around the kubuntu forum you should have come across nadavvin's solution
right click on your desktop, select configure desktop. in the resulting dialogue select "no picture" and then click on "advanced options" - use kwebdesktop to display your desktop. Modify kwebdesktop to point to the right website/file you require, bingo.
Thanks for the link - could you also edit the subject of your thread and add SOLVED?
Check you settings in kcontrol - systems administration - login manager - "background" tab. This has helped me before.
No need for a script I believe, there is a command to do that http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-linu…gout-users.html
I don't appear to have a kstyle.h - you mean a *.kth theme file? run Source code 1 kcontrol & from the command line and you can adjust, create and save desktop themes...
Yeah, nice tip. Where did you get the info from?
Steady on. Granted, I wouldn't use it as my primary desktop environment yet, but the apps work fine, no probs. All the normal KDE add-ons we are used to will come in time. Patience...
Sorry mate, can't help you 'cos I never ran Juk. Sounds like a Juk configuration problem. Only a suggestion, how about starting it from the command line. You will be able to see any errors it throws up when attempting to play MP3s.
Thanks alienator, good link for gdm, but is it 100% transferable to kdm? The files do appear very similar... BTW, I am trying to install a kth theme via the command line but find it absolutely impossible to get any documentation which rc files are involved. If anybody has come across any, please post...
yawn... has anybody here actually looked at kcontrol? there you have all the options available to you even to show description only. and why is linux called linux? not very descriptive now, is it...
google open suse and mp3 and ye shall find...
I am an amarok kind of guy and it works perfectly
