Hello there, I'm running KDE 3.5.3 and have a problem regarding screensavers. The problem is that when I call up Kcontrolcenter (to configure Kdesktop) there are no screensavers pressent. I do have kscreensaver-xsavers and xscreensaver-gl installed but screensavers from either package don't show up. Nothing shows up. I tried sudo sed -i -e 's/TryExec=xscreensaver//' /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/* to fix the problem but didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanx a bunch. LJ
Hello there, I just installed Koffice 1.5.1 on Kubuntu 6.06. The problem is when trying to run any Koffice app, for example kspread, I get this error: koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: kspreadpart.desktop not found. koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Run 'kde-config --path services' to see which directories were searched, assuming kde startup had the same environment as your current shell. koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Check your installation (did you install KOffice in a different prefix tha...
Thank you for your reply, I have had no luck either, all the apps I find are for monitoring the total throughput form all the apps that are using the bandwidth, not an individual breakdown of the usage... oh well, thanks again. LJ
Hey there, I'm curious as to whether there is a program to monitor what process is using how much bandwidth, I have Knetstats installed but it doesn't tell me what processes are using my bandwidth. For example, if Kopete, Amarok, Konqueror and another program are using the internet, I need some program that tells me: Process: Bandwidth: Amarok 5kb/sec Konqueror 19kb/sec _insert app here_ 21kb/sec Kopete 7kb/sec Or something similar (doesn't have to be that exact format, but you get the picture)....
Awesome!!! that did it, thank you both for your help, I owe you a beer. much appreciated... LJ
Ok thanks for the replay, I couldn't find any /etc/modules.conf but there was a /etc/modprobe.conf with the line you specified. So I made the changes you prescribed and will reboot now, I'll post how it went (I'm crossing my fingers...)
Thanks for the help... I found a /etc/profile but couldn't find a /etc/profile.local so I made one and put in it the line KDE_NO_IPV6=true as you suggested but no luck. In /etc/profile there is reference to /etc/profile.local but the file did not exist prior to me writting it. Should I add KDE_NO_IPV6=true to /etc/profile? After a restart the problem persists.... LJ
Hello there, I'm having a problem with slow internet, this seems to happen only on web pages or when trying to start a download, once the download gets going then I get about 240kb/sec. The problem is the starting of it takes some time, the same for web pages, they take some time to be displayed. I thught it might be a global problem but Firefox doesn't seem to have this problem (at least not at a glance). This happens with SuperKaramba's LiquidWeather++, Kopete, Konqueror, and YaST. Any help wi...
Hello there, I have a problem with my desktop icons... whenever I click on one, doesn't matter which one, amaroK starts up. I checked the icon properties for the trash and it seems to point to trash, so I'm puzzled by this. Any help would be appreciated. lj
is there a way to make konqueror web browser start maximized? thanx
Hello there, I came across the get hot new stuff buzz on the internet and wanted to give it a try but none of my applications seem to have the buttons required to download content from the internet. Tried to find packages or a tutorial on how to make this work with my SuSE 9.3 box but been out of luck. Does anyone out there know how to "Get Hot New Stuff" say for Kopete or wallpapers or KDM themes, etc? LJ
could anybody please tell me how to point GLSlideshow to a folder with images? In the Setup window it says: "To tell it where to find the images to display, go to the 'Advanced' tab on the Screensaver Preferences window. Select 'Choose Random Images', and enter your image directory in the text field right below that." Then it says: "(Note: not the 'Advanced' button of this window: the one on the other window)" The problem is, there is no "Advanced" button anywhere in either of the two windows, t...
The file does exist, and it is also in the directory the makefile (or configure file) is looking in, what I'm thinking is maybe it has something to do with the nVidia drivers. Even logged on as root I can't seem to be able to do anything to the file. This is the output of a chmod with root: chmod: failed to get attributes of `libGL.so': No such file or directory even if the file is physically there.... any other sugestions? I'm running out of ideas short of reinstalling SuSE 9.0 and compiling wi...
Hello there, I'm having some problems compiling Arts. It appears to complain about not finding libGL.so in /usr/lib/ but I know for a fact that it is there, or at least a link. When I see it in the file manager a lock icon appears with the libGL.so icon. I thought it was a permissions problem but when I try to change permissions (logged in as root) the permissions tab is grayed out and if I try to do it (as su) in the console, I get the following message: chmod: failed to get attributes of `libG...
Whenever I try to compile arts, i get the following error... /bin/sh ../libtool --silent --mode=link --tag=CXX g++ -Wnon-virtual-dtor -Wno-long-long -Wundef -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -ansi -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -Wcast-align -Wconversion -Wchar-subscripts -O2 -Wformat-security -Wmissing-format-attribute -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -ftemplate-depth-99 -o libqtmcop.la -rpath /home/share/kde-unstable/lib -no-undefined -Wl,--no-undefined -Wl,--allow-shlib-und...
Kool, I'll give it a try, is there a way I can install it so that it is available globaly and overwrites the existing KDE?
I have tried 3.2 from two packages one of the the official SuSE packages for 8.2 and they have both given me a lot of grief. So I want to compile ti myself. the thing is, who do I go about doing this... Any help would be greately appreciated. PS: I will do it from a fresh 8.2 install, Help...
The easyest way is to install from .rpm, try this: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/873827/com/kopete-0.7.4-1mdk.i586.rpm.html
I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but... I just got cable internet, when linux is starting up I can see with DHCP that an IP address is assigned to me but when I try to ping say www.kde.org the ping times out after a while. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance for your help. LJ
I think it would be a good thing to have this kind of functionality in KDE, as a quick way to lock important files. The partition thing sounds like it would work but I have no idea how to do that. I was thinking somethinga long the lines of right clicking on the folder you want to lock, go to properties and clicking on an option "lock forlder" and maybe have another option "change password" if you want the access pass to be different from you account password..... How can you get in touch with t...
