Kdar locks up Linux

From the About menu: Kdar 2.0.6 using KDE 3.4.3

Trying to back up /home on my Ubuntu-64 Breezy laptop to a 60 GB external USB pocket drive. I got it to start the archive, which should have amounted to about 1.5 GB. When the progress bar got to 67% (102.5 MB) it stopped adding, although the timer kept on ticking away the seconds. Then the timer stopped and the whole computer was locked up. Keyboard dead, mouse dead -- locked up tight. Had to hit the power button to get out and then reboot.

I looked around for a bug list or place to search for known issues, but can't find one.

I certainly can't be using a program that locks up the computer. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
