Display Plasmoids only on Dashboard

Hi all,

I installed OpenSuse 11 last night and thought I'd give KDE a try after having used Gnome for the last few years. I must admit - I loved it!

However (there's always a but, er... a however); how do I have some Plasmoids on my "desktop" and some on the "dashboard"? I'd like to have a seperate view of items, similar to OSX I guess. That way I can have my program icons always visible, and things like weather and notes hidden from view during normal operation.

I tried adding plasmoids when the dashboard was visible and then locking them (as this made sense) but it has not changed anything.

Any suggestions?

Well, i don't know if this is planned for future releases, but till now it is not possible. Actually the Dashboard IS the desktop, "Show Dashboard" only moves the desktop to the front, so you can work with your widgets.
But maybe here is a workaround, that could fix your needs. Add another activity, then add another set of widgets to that new activity. That way you can switch between the activitys (Ctrl+SHIFT+P or N) to see your different widget sets.

Alright... I'm squatting in a "ready to duck" position... But what is an activity and how do I make one? :(

I've searched kde.org, this site and googled for the term "activity" in relation to KDE and plasma/plasmoids... but have come up empty handed as to how I actually "Add another activity".

Sorry if I'm asking stoppid stuffs, but I've been a Gnome user for quite some time. I was once a KDE lover  , but curiosity got the better of me. Sorry.

hehe, you don't need to. It's not very visible atm.

in the upper right corner, when you click in it, you have the option to "zoom out". Now you have an overview of your current activities. Should be 1 for you. Now when click again on the little cashews in the corner you have the option "add activity".
And when you added another activity, you can do "zoom in" and then change the activities with the above mentioned keyboard shortcuts.
Btw., you can even have different wallpapers for your activities.

Zoom Out eh? I have attached an image of what options I get when I right click on my cashews... Is this an OpenSuseism?

No, a left click is enough, and then the room around the cashew will expand with some items.

I only get:

Add Item
Lock Widgets
Show Dashboard

When I mouse-over the cashews. Left clicking seems to do nothing.

Do I have to enable Zooming somewhere?

Strange, maybe suse patched or disabled it. But i thought that it was reenabled in KDE4.1. Or are you running 4.0.x?
