KDE4 keybindings/desktop not saved

I'm using KDE4.1 beta 2.

For some reason, my keybindings are not saved on restart. Furthermore, my desktop widgets are also lost. Both are reverted to the defaults when restarted. I've attempted to delete the .kde and .kde4 directories - to no avail.

However, the panel widgets do seem to be saved.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

more research..

I did some more research into this.

1) my settings are being saved, but they aren't actually being loaded. kglobalshortcutsrc has the keybindings after restart, but they are not loaded.
2) other issues: certain keys on my keyboard (such as down) don't actually work until I enter the keyboard control panel
3) this settings thing seems true with the desktop widgits - they are saved, but aren't being loaded

Ideas?
