Konqueror and playing multimedia off the web

Hi,
I am grappling at the moment with configuring KDE to play streaming media off the web. First question:
Why is it that a plugin/embedded player that works in Firefox does not work in Konqueror.

Secondly, in konqueror itself, how do I configure playing of streaming media. I mean I know of Settings --> Configure Konqueror --> File Associations and have tried endlessly to install every player and tell konqueror about it but nothing seems to work. Is there a tutorial that can help me with this?

For instance, I have set the 'video' group to 'Show content in separate player' and my first preference in the list of players is Mplayer. However, konqueror insists on playing it embedded in Kaffeine! Short of uninstalling everything except Mplayer, I do not know how to make it "play" nicely with mplayer (pun quite unintended).

A brief or detailed guide to configuring konqueror to play media stuff of the web would be excellent!
How come I can never come up with something original as my signature?

Dunno, works fine over here.
Perhaps it depends om the website you are visiting.

I think you should edit/remove the protocol handler for kaffeine.
