CD Autoinsert Actions

I would like to configure the KDE Daemon to give me an option to launch Grip when I insert a CD. I can't figure out the syntax for the command line to make Grip launch correctly. I have tried a couple of iterations, but a I get an error about "the file or folder / does not exist". I would like to make the Grip entry work. I would also like to delete some of the other options that I don't intend to use, but when I click on them in Configure - KDE Control Module, the Remove option is grayed out. How do I delete the "default options". Thanks for any assistance.

RE: CD Autoinsert Actions

Bump.

Gosh with KDE so popular, it is shocking that this board is so dead. It appears that 3/4's of the posts are going unanswered. Help!

RE: CD Autoinsert Actions

About lacking manpower, I'm practically the only one who answers on this forum. If I don't know it, there's a high chance it remains unanswered. You (and the reader of this post) are very welcome to help me a bit on this task.

Back to your question, maybe the thread in the Administration forum is of any use, I haven't heard from that user if it actually works, but give it a try.

RE: CD Autoinsert Actions (Partially Solved)

Bram, my apologies my previous post was presumptuous. I believe that KDE has the majority of desktops and I am surprised that there is not more activity with users helping users. I will try and pitch in. Most things with KDE are sufficiently intuitive that I don't need to ask a question, but I could not figure this one out.

OK, the correct Grip command line for the KDR Daemon is "grip %u". I was able to look at the Amarok entry and match it. As I said, I think it was an easy question, but I probably asked it in a confusing fashion.

The other half of my question is how do I delete the rest of the entries in the Audio CD - KDE Daemon that I don't want. I imagine they are added when the applications are installed, but I don't normally use Kaffeine or KAudioextractor and I would like to remove those entries (without uninstalling the applications). When I select Configure from the KDE Daemon and then select one of those application actions, the Delete option is grayed out. There is no administrator mode, so I need to know where else I can edit those choices. I looked around on different systems settings, but didn't see anything that looked right. I looked at the Konqueror settings, but didn't see anything. How do I edit those choices that are grayed out in the Configure - KDE Control Module window.

Thanks.

RE: CD Autoinsert Actions (Partially Solved)

I think there's not a nice and clean way to remove items. What I can think of right now is to grep for 'media/audiocd' in $KDEDIR/share/services and ~/.kde/share/services and remove those from the ServiceTypes line (only in *.desktop files, not in *.protocol files).

Although I was able to get my Grip working, I still don't have the correct command line to launch Amarok and play the CD. Surely someone has this working.

Crickets chirping....

Well, I got Grip to launch. However, when I finish encoding one CD and insert another, if I select the Grip item from the menu, it opens a second instance of Grip and both try to rip/encode and it goes downhill from there. Would like for the command to recognize that Grip is already open and just start ripping. Oh well. Still have not been able to remove unwanted items or get Amarok to play. Still looking for help.
