Konstruct finished, now what?

Okay, trying to install KDE 3.4.3 using Konstruct. Did what it told me so I could do a full install of kde and everything else. I configured gar.conf.mk to let it know I had QT greater than 3.3. cd'd to meta/kde, did make install (as instructed). It seems to have download the appropriate packages (I saw it) and compile them (saw that too.) I can tell kde has been installed somehow, but not sure what's next. Here's what I've observed so I can better explain:

* It does not add kde to xwmconfig. Seems to me there's a file that needs to be added along the lines of xinitrc.kde. How do I create it or do I need to if I want it as an option in there?
* Whenever I do finally get the PATH to the kde directory to stick (a topic of another thread, but not here), and run startkde from a console, it will actually start kde when I am running another desktop (in my case, WindowMaker), but, it will not if I just run startkde from the command line (outside of X). I hope that wasn't confusing.

You can see that the question is inevitably going to be: After Konstruct does it's duty, how do I get it to run on it's own without having to already be inside another window manager? Is there something else I need to do that the Konstruct README file doesn't explain or (more likely) something I don't know about window managers and X, etc.?

MUCH thanks in advance to anybody who reads this,

Yah, I would like some info on that too. Both pages I've looked at on KDE's website didn't help too much. Now what might help them is which version of Linux are you trying to install it into...because I am trying to do it under Red Hat Enterprise 3 ES (and it has KDE 3.1....Redhat style)

So uhh yah...how do we go about doing this ;)

I've the same problem on mandriva 2006 and kde3.5
correcly build int /root/kde3.5/ ...

okay for launch it in a console before X has started,
but how to make the new kde directory the default windows manager of mandriva when it starts automatically ?
